GLOBE-HOLDER FOR ELECTRIC-ARC LAMPS.

Be it known that I, HORATIO A. FOSTER, a

. citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Globe-Holders for Electric-Arc Lamps, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates to globe-holders for electric-arc lamps; and my object is to provide a holder simple in construction, easily and cheaply manufactured, and by which the globe may be securely fastened in position to one of the standards of the lamp.

improved holder, which comprises simply a fiat metal frame, are or ring shaped, which rests on top of the gl0be, and a clamping device thereon for securing the whole to one of the lam p-standards.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a view in elevation showing the globe and holder in position upon a lamp. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder, showing the lampstandard in section. Fig. 3 is a section of the holder on line 00 :c, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a second section at right angles to Fig. 3, and Fig. 5 shows the pivoted clamping-jaw in detail.

In the views, A represents a flat metal frame, which rests on the top of the globe, and will preferably be arc-shaped, as shown. At the two ends of this frame, and likewise at its center, are lugs o'r flanges B, projecting downward, through which pass screws B, which serve to attach the globe to the frame, as will be understood.

Upon the upper side of the frame over the central flange B is a clamping device for attaching the holder to the standard of the lamp, which is preferably constructed as follows: A lug or hearing C is cast or otherwise made part of the frame, and has a fixed jaw C fitting the lamp-standard, and two cars D D,

between which is pivoted a second and movable jaw F, a vertical bolt serving as the together on the standard. The frame A is of considerable stiffness, so that when supported by a single such clamping device the globe will be held firmly.

Thisholderis adapted particularly'forglobes placed outside of and close to the standards of the lamp, as seen in Fig. 1; but it may be used to support a globe in other situations as well. It affords means for readily adjusting the position of the globe upon the standard and facilitates the work of the attendant, because as there is only a single clamping device one hand is left free to support the globe.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination, with the standards of an arc lamp, of aglobe surrounding the standards, a globe-holder attached to the top of the globe, having a bearing upon its upper side, and a clamping-jaw pivoted in said bearing and furnishing means for clamping the holder to one of the standards of the lamp.

2. The combination of the: standards of an arc lamp and the globe surrounding the standards with the globe-holder resting on the globe and having a clamping device on its upper side for attachment to one of the standards, as set forth.
