JAMES lV. ROZAR, OF RAVLINS, GEORGIA.
FERTIYLIZER-DISTRIBUTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 452,240, dated 12, 1891.
Application filed July 22, 1890. Serial No. 359,574. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES W'. ROZAR, of Rawlins, in the county of Dodge and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful- Vith these objects in view my invention consists in the peculiar construction of the various parts and the novel mannerin which they are combined,as will be more fully hereinafter referred to and claimed.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which similar letters of reference indicate the same parts, Figure l is a side View of my improved machine, and Fig. 2 is a central vertical longitudinal section of the same.
In carrying out my invention I employ a beam B, standard S, secured to the same, an opening-plow P, attached to said standard," and the handles H, all of which are constructed and arranged in the usual or any preferred manner. The beam Bis preferably foreshortened, as shown, and to the forward end of the saine is secured a bearing-frame A, in which is journaled the wheel A', the clevis C being secured at the forward end of the said frame. By means of the frameI am enabled to use a larger wheel and yet have the same in alignment with the standard and share. The frame is secured to the beam B by means of the upper and lower clip-pieces B and C', respectively.
Vertical brackets D are secured to each side of the beam near its forward end and connect said beam with the handles H, and between the said brackets is secured the rigid hopper E, said hopper having an open bottom, and pivoted to thehopper E and beneath the same is the supplemental hopper or vibrating shoe E", said hopper E being opened at its rear end and provided with a spout E2, which extends into the delivery-chute F, said chute being secured to the rear of the handles and beam and projecting downward directly beneath the standard.
A lever G is secured to one side of the vibrating hopper or shoe E and projects forward alongside the wheel A', which wheelis provided with a series of laterally-projecting pins or studs d, adapted to engage the free end of the lever, oscillating the same and communicating a vibratory motion to the shoe E', which receives the fertilizer or seed from the main hopper E.
A regulator slide-plate K is secured to the rear side of the hopper E and projects down into the vibrating hopper E', and is adjustable in order that the feed may be regulated.
A cordor chain G is attached to the free end of the lever G and is secured at the other end to one of the handles within reach of the operator,'as clearly shown, said cord passing through an eye g upon the hopper E, and by pulling on the cord the lever is lifted and the distributing. stopped. lVith a fertilizer-distributer constructed as described one can plow and fertilize at the same time, thereby saving a great deal of time, labor, and expense, and my fertilizer-distributeris equally well adapted for plan ting.
In operation the fertilizer or seed is placed in the hopper E, where it passes down into the supplemental hopper or shoe E', and, the feed-board havingbeen regulated, the device is started. The wheel A in revolving will operate the lever G, which willn turn vibrate the hopper or shoe E', thus feeding the fertilizer or seed from the spout E2 to chute F, whereby itis delivered to the ground in the center of the furrow.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- In a distributer, the combination, with the beam I3, the bearing-frame A, the lower clip B', the upper clip C', by means of which the bearing-frame is secured to the forward end of the beam B, the studded wheel A', thehandles IOO ll,tl1e brackets D, connected t0 Lhebealn and alignment with the studded wheel, the lever- 1o handles, the rigid hopper E, secured to the arm G, and the rope G, all arranged and brackets, the adjustable feed-slide K, the viadapted to operate substantially as shown bra-Ling hopper E', pivoted to the rigid 110pand described.
5 per and beneath the same, the spout E2, rigid i y, f
with the Vibrating hopper, the feed-delivery JAMED ROAR chute F, arranged at the rear of the bea-n1, l Witnesses:
the standard S, secured to the beam directly in advance of the delivery-chute and in D. M. BUCHAN, A. E. SHAPPELL.
