J. MULLER.
ADJUSTABLE WRENCH. No. 451,833. Patented Mayfi, 1891.
1 19.1 i1 FL ZlZ/w/m; @Zl'fiZfd/f f ciooZ/Vfzi'iier Qiiar/z UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB MULLER, OF BURBACH, GERMANY.
ADJUSTABLE WRENCH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,833, dated May 5, 1891.
Application filed June 26, 1390. Serial No. 356,907. (No model.)
The improved spanner hereinafter de-- scribed will operate upon nuts of any given diameter and is distinguished by its greatsimplicity. The same may be made of iron or wrought-steel.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 an edge view, of the wrench.
a is the handle or lever-arm, which is pro vided on both sides and at its upper end with serrations or teeth d. This handle carries the fixed jaws c of the spanner, while the other jaw b can be moved up and down thereon with a certain amount of play. The opening or cavity f of the jaw b, which slides upon the handle a, is curved inwardly, so that the said jaw may be placed in a slightly-oblique position, and be thereby enabled to rest with the edge g of its openingf against one of the teeth d, whereby the spanner may be arranged to fit in a very simple manner'nuts of any and every ordinary size. it is a peg orpin to prevent the falling off of the sliding jaw Z).
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
The wrench composed of straight bar a, having similar teeth d on two opposite edges, the head rigid on the upper end thereof and projecting laterally in opposite directions to form two opposite rigid jaws c c, the sliding member forming two jaws b b and having transverse opening f through its center to receive bar a, said opening being contracted at opposite ends to form four biting-edges g, as shown, and for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
JACOB MULLER.
Witnesses:
