Description

G. H. ANDERSON. BASKET STAND OR HOLDER.
No. 451,795 Patented May 5, 1891.
' from a central position above.
NITED STATES- ATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE H. ANDERSON, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN.
BASKET STAND OR HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,795, dated May 5,1891.
I Application filed November 4, 1890- Serial No. 370,326- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigamhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Basket Stands or Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the drawings forming part thereof, and wherein theletters of reference designate like parts in the several views.
This invention relates to that class of holders having supporting-legs adapted to fold together for the purpose of convenient handling, packing, storage, and transportation; and my special object is to provide a neat, cheaplymade, and convenient supportingholder for the baskets of grocers, wherein are exposed for sale fruits, vegetables, and the like for safe-keeping, out of the reach of despoiling dogs and other quadrupeds. Various other uses will readily suggest themselves to which mynovel invention is adapted, as will be seen hereinafter.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 isaperspective elevation of my basket stand or holder, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal view of the tripodal or other form of the centralpivotal support for the folding legs. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same on looking down Figs. 4 and 5 are modifications thereof wherein four and six supporting-legs are employed.
A represents the stand or holder leg, provided with a central or nearly central joint, any number more than three being employed, according to the taste of the maker or use intended.
B is a central block, preferably a casting, in which horizontally-projecting bolts or rivets a are incorporated for pivotal attachment of the tripodal, hexapodal, or other support, as clearly shown in the several Views.
On reference to the drawings it will be observed that the legs A are so arranged and pivoted to the block '13 that when in position for use they rest and are fulcrumed upon each other and diverge from each other both above and beneath the said block, thus forming above the block a receptacle for the basket or like article which will rest on the upper ends thereof, and beneath said block supports for rigidly sustaining the device.
The central block or castingBis preferably provided with a central vertical aperture 1), which may be utilized for various purposes, such as supporting a hydrant or water-pipe for fountain and sprinkling purposes.
Having thus fully illustrated and described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States,
1. A basket stand or holder consisting of a central block and a series of legs pivoted thereto and projecting above and below the same, said legs being so pivoted to said block and arranged when in position for use that they rest and are fulcrumed upon each other, whereby they are automatically held in divergent position outwardly from each other both above and beneath said block.
2. In a basket stand or holder, the block B, havinga central opening, and boltsorpivots,as a, projecting horizontally outward from the sides of said block, in combination with the folding legs A,so arranged that when in position for use they rest and are fulcrumed upon each other, whereby they are automatically held in divergent position outwardly from each other both above and below said block.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my name and signature, in the presence of two witnesses, this 17th day of August, A. D. 1890.
GEO. H. ANDERSON.
