RBFRIGERATOR.
Patented Aug. Z5, 1891.
WWE?
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
TRUMAN S. OALDW'ELL, OF HIGHMORE, COLORADO.
REFRIGERATOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 458,153, dated August 25, 1891. Application led October 18, 1890. Serial No. 368,612. (No model.)
T0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TRUMAN S. CALDWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highmore, in the county of Garfield and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Refrigerators; and l do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to portable refrigerators; and its objects are, first, to provide a case capable of holding a number of the same or different articles separately; second, to provide for the carriage of perishable commodities in separate compartments; third, to insure hermetic closure of such case; fourth, to induce a frigid temperature in the radial focus of such compartments; fifth, to provide forv the axial rotation of said case, permitting the insertion or withdrawal'of the articles from a common door, and, sixth, to accomplish these ends with structural simplicity and economy. I accomplish these aims by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l represents a perspective view of a carrier constructed according to the principles of my invention. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section thereof, and Fig. 3 is a central transverse section.
The same designations indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
This carrier is intended to accommodate butter-packages and similar perishable articles between the place of production and the market. An outer casing A, preferably of thick wood or staves held togetherby metallic bands above and below, is provided with bails on either side and a central door a2, having hasps cl, fitting staples on the casing adjacently. A top a tits over the casing, permittin g the withdrawal or insertion of a tubular bottomless frame ZJ, whose flanged top rests on the innenwall D of the casing A. A series of perforations is made in the wall thereof, near, the top, for ventilation. The bottomless frame Z7 accommodates an icebu-cket O, having a bail d, and is closed by a lid d2. Concentrically adjusted around said frame h, so as to rotate thereon axially, is the oarrierframe B, laid o in equal radial compartments for the storage of perishable articles.
Having thus fully described my improvements, what I claim is- A portable refrigerator having the outer casing A, provided with a door a2, having suitable fastenings, and a removable top ct, provided with a central perforation normally covered by a lid a', in combination with the tubular bottomless frame b, having a series of perforations near the top, an ice-bucket c, adapted to fit in said frame, and the concentric carrier-frame B, revolving axially around the frame b by frictional contact solely and having equal concentric radial compartments for the storage of articles, the whole co-operating, as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof 1 have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.,
TRUMAN S. CALDWELL.
