INKSTAND.
-SPEGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 454,173, dated June 16, 1891. Application filed October 4, 1890. Serial No. 367,085. (No model.) Patented in England May 1, 1890, No. 6,707.
To all whom it may concern: n
Be it known that I, JOHN ALEXANDER MAO- MEIKAN, barrister at law, of the Gables, Great Missenden, Bucks, England, a subject of the Queen of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inkstands, (patented in Great Britain on the 1st of May, 1890, No. 6,707,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention is designed to supply a combined inkstand, pen-rack, and call-bell, and thus avoid the inconvenience of having these articles separated from one another. The method adopted for effecting this combination is to form ahole in, the center of an ordinary semi-globular bell sufficiently large to enable it to be fastened around the neck or aperture of the ink-reservoir, so that in dipping for ink the pen passes through the center of the bell.
Upon a frame attached to the mouth of the inkstand I fix the clapper or striker of the bell, and I also attach to the said frame a penrack or other suitable adjuncts to an inkstand.
I will now describe the invention with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which is shown a sectional elevation of my improved inkstand.
a is the glass ink-pot; b, the hell; 0, the frame; cl, the striker; e, the pen-rack, and f the lid. g is the holder for a piece of indiarubber i. 72 is a small spring to keep the striker in position. The ink-pot a may, if
preferred, be divided internally, so as to con- 1 tai n compartments for red ink or copying-ink, and may be so attached as to rotate under the hell or conversely, so that the frame and upper parts may revolve over the ink-pot, so as to uncover the openings to the different compartments in succession.
What I claim as new is- 1. The combination, with an ink-reservoir, of a semi-globular bell provided with an opening in its center and connected to the inkreservoir, so as to bring the opening in the bell coincident with the mouth of the inkreservoir, substantially as set forth.
2 The combination, with an ink-reservoir and a bell fastened around the neck of said reservoir, of a frame, as 0, attached to the mouth of the reservoir and provided with a bell clapper or striker, substantially as set forth.
3. An article of desk-furniture, comprising an ink-reservoir, a semi-globular bell having a central opening and fastened around the neck of said reservoir, and a frame, as c, attached to the mouth of the reservoir and carrying a bell-clapper and a pen-rack, substantially as set forth.
Signed at London, England, this 17th day of September, A. D. 1890.
