WM. JOHNSON, OF ALLEGHENY, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED PAINT-OIL.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 44,316, dated September 20, 1864.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM JOHNSON, of the city and county of Allegheny, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Paint-Oil and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and exact description of the same.
This invention consists in a certain combination of ingredients, to be hereinafter specified, which, after careful experiment, has been found to constitute amost effectual vehicle for paints.
In order that others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may be enabled to fully understand and use the same, I will proceed to describe it.
The following are the ingredients of my improved paint-oil, and the quantities named are about the proportions in which the same are mixed, viz: fiaxseed-oil, three gallons; gumshellac, two pounds; gum turpentine, two pounds; rosin, two pounds; sugar of lead, one pound; redlead, one pound; litharge, one
pound dry white lead, one pound; petroleum or coal-oil, thirty-seven gallons. The ingredients above specified, with the exception of compounded of ingredients, some of them analogous to mine, but in different proportions, is described in Letters Patent granted to Chas. Ooale, April 1, 1862. This therefore I do not broadly claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a paint-oil composed of the ingredients and mixed in the proportions herein specified.
