HEATER.

Be it known that I, KASPER Scnnlrr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dewar, in the countyof Black Hawk and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovements in Heaters of which the following is afull and clear description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my heater, showing the several pipes in elevation. Fig. 2 is a detail of the waterpipes which form the inclosing fire-chamber, taken on the line 0c of Fig. 1 and looking toward the front. Fig. 3 is across-sectional View of the fire-chamber. Fig. at is a sectional view of a cooking-vessel to be referred to.

My invention relates to certain. new and useful improvements in devices for heating water for domestic or stock purposes 5 and my invention consists in the constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, which I shall hereinafter fully describe and claim.

To enable others skilled in the art to which my invent-ion appertains to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and indicate the manner in which the same is carried out.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a casing of any well'known. description, having a flue a for the escape of the products of combustion. Aledge or flange b surrounding an opening in the top of the casing furnishes a means for supporting a vessel B, which is let into said opening, and by preference has a curved bottom, above which, supported upon a ledge Z1, is a false slatted bottom h, which may be used when desired.

Secured to or upon any well-known support, and preferably at a point above the casing A, is a vessel or tank 0, adapted to contain water, and from said tank leads a pipe c,which extends downward to the base of the casing and enters the bottom thereof and extends upward a short distance, and is coupled to one of the pipes d in the horizontallower coil D. This coil consists of the pipes (Z and d,

which connect near the central portion of the coil, and are then coiled right and left toward the sides of the casing, after which the pipes (Z and (Z are coiled vertically along said sides for a suitable distance, and then are turned tends through the front of said casing and is coupled to a vertical pipej", whose lower end is connected with a branch pipe g from the vertical pipe 0, which leads from the watertank, the said branch pipe having a controlling valve or cook 7L, and the pipe having a valve or cock 7.", which regulates the amount of water flowing to the coils.

The upper end of the vertical pipe f is coupled to a horizontal pipe I and is provided at its top with any well-known form of-safetyvalve 7', and this horizontal pipe Z has one of its ends passing into the vessel or receptacle 13, while the other end leads to and ent rs a cask, barrel, or vessel E, which contains feed for cattle or for other purposes.

The horizontal pipe Z has valves m m, which may be operated to permit the flow of water or steam to the vessel 13 or to the vessel E.

In Fig. l I illustrate a supplemental vessel F, which is somewhat smaller than the vessel 15, and is designed to be supported in said latter vessel, so that it is wholly or partially submerged, said vessel F having a removable platform G supported within it upon theledge 'n and adapted to support such articles of food as may be placed thereon and cooked for table use.

From this description it will be seen that the coils D and D with their vertical side members constitute a four-sided receptacle which forms a chamber for the fire, the fuel for which is placed upon the lower coil D through the door H in the casing, which may be of iron or masonry or may represent any well-known form of stove-casing. The regulating-valve It being opened and the valves h and at being closed, the water from the tank 0 flows through the vertical pipe 0 into the coils surrounding the fire, where it is heated, and thence flows through the pipes f and Z into the vessel B and is discharged onto the clothes or other articles placed therein. If clothes are to be washed, they will be placed upon the slatted platform I) to prevent their being burned by contactwith the metal bottom of the vessel. This arrangement enables me to supply hot water whenever needed for washing clothes or for cooking articles for table use, in which latter case the supplemental vessel is placed within the vessel B, as previously described.

If it be desired to cook the feed within the barrel or vessel E, I close the valve m in the horizontal pipe land open valve on, when the heated water and steam flow through the pipe f into the barrel. lVhen it is desired to draw hot water for domestic purposes, the valves m and m are closed and the valve in the branch pipe g opened, when the water may be drawn directly from the coils. The pipes of the lower coil may have one or more of their members provided with a draw-off cock I to withdraw the water in. the coils and their pipes, and thereby prevent damage by freezing when the heater is not in use.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. The combination, with the casing and the Water-tank,. 0f the upper and lower coils consisting of the pipes (Z and d, coupled together and coiled horizontally and vertically to form a four-sided fire-chamber, a pipe leading from the water-tank and connected centrally with the lower horizontal coil, a discharge-pipe leading from the upperhorizontal coil, and a vessel supported in the open top of the easing, into which said discharge-pipe empties, said vessel having a slatted platform or false bottom,substantially as herein described.

2. The combination of the casing, the water-tank, the pipe 0, leading therefrom to the lower coil, the pipes d and cl, forming horizontal and vertical coils and constituting a tire-chamber, a discharge-pipe from the upper coil, the horizontal pipe Z, having the valves mand m, and the vertical pipe which connects the discharge-pipe with the horizontal pipe, said vertical pipe having a safety-valve at its upper end and the horizontal pipe having its opposite ends adapted to enter inde pendent vessels, substantially as herein described.
