UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIC GEORGE D. STULKEN, OF MCOOOK', NEBRASKA.
HAM E-TUG cu P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 449,714,'dated April 7, 1891.
Application filed August 1,1890.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. STULKEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mo- Cook, in the county of Red Willow and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hame-Tugs; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to the clip which connects the tug with the staple on a hame, and the replaceable wearing-piece of leather or other material which is often used to take the wear.
The invention consists in the particular means by which the wearing-piece is retained in its position, as hereinafter fully described.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation, partly in section, showing a clip connected with the staple of a hame, and provided with my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of a wearing-piece to which is riveted a steel spring; and Fig. 3, a horizontal section of same.
In the drawings, A represents a clip, between whose arms a a is secured a tug B, by means of the rivets b b, while in the concavity of the curved bearing a is secured a wearing-piece O, which is preferably made of The use of this wearingpiece is very old; but the Serial No. 360,711. (No model.)
question is how to conveniently and securely hold it in place, as it is constantly liable to work out if not provided with some fastening. For this purpose I employ the steel spring D, which is curved to hold the leather Wearing-piece to which it is riveted near each end, and provided with the outward flanges The combination, with the end of a hame tug clip and the wearing-leather therein, of an intermediate spring whose ends press outwardly against the inside of clip, are fastened to the wearing-leather, and are'provided with flanges embracing the clip, as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I atfix m y signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE D. STULKEN.
Witnesses:
