UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT INGAL AND JOSEPH INGAL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
/ i HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,946, dated February 24, 1891.
Application filed March 26,1890. Serial No. 345,454. (No model.)
T0 on whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, ROBERT INGAL and JOSEPH INGAL, both citizens of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tall-Brackets, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, the same forming part of that description.
Our invention is an article of manufacture relating to a metal wall-bracket with branching hooks; and it consists, chiefly, in the construction of the base -plate which secures safe fastening of the same for supporting heavy articles which the hooks have to bear.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 exhibits the wall-bracket in front view with extending hooks from a common base-plate, the same provided on its rear part with a projecting rib. Fig. 2 is a rear end viewof the foregoing one, showing the rib in center of the base-plate and screw-holes as arranged; and Fig. 3 shows in top view the bracket and its base-plate with the rib extending from the same.
In describing our invention we refer to the accompanying drawings, which fully represent the article as constructed of one piece of metal.
1 A is the base of the bracket, from the front part of which are branching hooks a b c at dilterent elevations, extending in line of centerof the base-plate. The main hook at projects in a graceful curve to a calculated height and distance and terminates with a horizontal disk d, with convex-shaped surface, to carry a hat suspended at a sufficient space from the wall and from the other articles deposited on the hooks'located beneath. Said hook a is provided with an arm 11 near its upper portion to bear with its end against the body of the hat, which prevents tilting and secures a firm rest of the same. The hooks b and c are located below the main hook and intended to holda coat, umbrella, &c., and the hook Z) is connected with the main hook aby an ornamented brace h for supporting the same. From the top of the base-plate A projects a curved hook 9 toward the main book a, from which it is separated by a narrow space to hold the hat upright. One side of the body of the same rests on the disk d of the main hook, while the other end of the brim of the hat is clamped in the said narrow space, and the end of the arm 2' supports the crown of the hat. The rear part of the base-plate A is provided with a rib B, rising in tapering shape from both ends of the base-plate toward the middle portion of the same, forming there a sharp point 0, adapted to be forced with the remaining part of the rib into a penetrable substance for fastening in perpendicular position.
To fasten the bracket firmly to a wall or board, the base-plate is provided for that purpose near its upper part with downwardlyextending slots f f, arranged symmetrically on both sides from the rib to be slipped over fitting-screws, the same being previously screwed into the material at a corresponding space with the slots of the base-plate.
Having thus described our invention, we claim A metal wall bracket comprising the baseplate A, the same having at its rear part a raised rib B, with a sharp point e, and having slots f f, and provided with acurved hook g, said baseplate having on its front part branching hooks a 1) c, the main hookabeing provided with an arm 2', disk (I, and brace it, all combined and arranged substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we have set ourhands hereunto in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ROBERT INGAL. JOSEPH INGAL.
