To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ELIZA A. YVOOD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Easton, in the county of \Vashington and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Pails and \Vringers; andI do declare the followingments in mop pails and wringers; and it consists of the novel combination and construction of parts, as will fully appear from the following description and accompanying drawings, and pointed out. in the claim.

In the embodiment of my invention I employ the usual form of pail A, which, however, as herein shown, has attached to its side at the bottom edge an offset arm or rest B, which rests squarely on the floor or other surface for the purpose of preventing the tilting or upsetting of the pail as the operator applies pressure by the foot to the wringer. This arm or rest in the present instance has the form of a bail, and is of wood or metal, and is provided with vertical upwardly-projecting portions or extensions provided with fastenings entering and securing said odset or arm to the pail.

The other roller 0 is axially mounted upon a shaft 1), secured at its ends to the upper ends of and carried by two fiat spring-metal or plate-like bars or levers 1), whose lower ends are formed with eyes which receive headed studs or pivots b of T-shaped brackets or castings b fastened to the pail-body on its outside near the bottom edge, and thus pivot said bars or levers in posit-ion upon the pail. The purpose of making the bars or levers I Z) of spring metal is to enable them to yield or flex more or less as pressure is brought upon the rollers in drawing the mop between the latter. as practiced in effecting the wringing operation, whereby any knotted portions of the mop or the crumpled as well as the straight portions thereof may be drawn between the rollers without relaxing the pressure of the foot through the aid of which said wringing operation is being effected.

D is an arcuate foot-lever having its ends fixed or secured to the levers or bars 12' near their lower ends and standing normally in an upwardly-inclined position upon the outside of the pail and a short distance off from the latter. The roller 0, whose shaft is carried by said levers or bars 1), stands normally away from the roller C. being thus held by spring E, the coiled portion of which is arranged upon a headed stud c, projecting from the outside of the pailbody, the straight or other portion of said spring connecting with one of the levers b. The foot-lever D isconnected by a heavy coiled spring 0 with one of the levers I), which gives additional elasticity to the latter.

Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s

The mop pail and wringer having held in its upper end a fixed roller, in combination with the spring-metal plate-like levers with their broad surfaces presented in the direction of the application of the pressure, the upper ends thereof carrying a roller arranged in the upper part of the pail and their lower ends pivoted upon studs of brackets secured to the pail-body, the arcuate footlever having its ends secured to said levers above their pivoting-studs and itself connected by a spring to one of said levers, and the additional spring coiled around a stud projecting from the pail-body and having the upper end of its straight portion connected to one of said levers, substantially as specified.
