No. 433,634. Patented Aug. 5, 1890.
Fi g. 1.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED STELZNER, OF \VIESBADEN, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
MOlSTENlNGi-PAD FOR ENVELOPES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,634, dated August 5, 1890.
Application filed November 5, 1889. Serial No. 329,380. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED STELZNER, of
WViesbaden, Prussia, German Empire, have invented an Improved Moistening-Pad forEn- 5 velopes, of which the following is a specification.
Thisinvention relates to a pad for moistening the gummed flap of an envelope, thus avoiding the necessity of licking such flap.
[ The invention consists in the various features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a sectional end view of my improved moist- I eningpad; Fig. 2, a plan thereof; Fig. 3, a
plan of a modification; Fig. l, a section on line was, Fig. 3; and Fig.5 a perspective View showing the apparatus in use.
The letter A represents a shallow tin box,
inclosing a piece of felt, cloth, or similar a rticle B and closed by a cover 0. This cover is partially cut out, as at D, so that the felt B is exposed. The cut-out portion represents in shape two long rectangles joined at an ob- 2 5 tuse angle.
E E are additional spaces out out of cover 0, each of such spaces having the shape and size of a postagestamp.
To the cover 0 there is secured a pair of knobs F, which are grasped by the thumb and middle finger of the left hand while the flap bronzed, or otherwise ornamented or pro- ,tected.
In use the pad B is moistened and the apparatus is placed between the body and flap of an envelope, as in Fig. 5, to moisten the latter.
For moistening postage-stamps'they are placed upon the out-out spaces E.
What I claim is 1. The combination of box A with pad B, cut-out cover C, and knob F, substantially as specified.
2. The combination of box A with pad B, cover C, having the cut-out parts D E, and knob F, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I hereunto sign my name,in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 15th day of October, 1889.
ALFRED STELZNER.
