UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM TILESTON, OF GEORGETOWN, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOLSTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 43,275, dated June 2l, 1864.
To all whom, t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM TILEsToN, of Georgetown,in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement on Holsters; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full and eXact description thereof, reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists in attaching to the holsters for pistols or other rearms a wiper for cleaning the inside of the barrels and chambers thereof, and in placing cotton or other fibrous material saturated with oil in the bottom of the sheath or pocket of the holster, to protect the inside of the barrel of the pistol or other tire-arm `from becoming damp and rusting, and to prevent the admission of dirt and dust into the barrel.
I construct my holster in the ordinary manner, with a sheath or pocket for containing the pistol or other fire-arm, and having a flap so constructed as to fold over the mouth of the holster and secured by a button or other suitable fastening.
To the outside of the holster I attach a sheath or scabbard, in which I insert a wiper.
This sheath is constructed in such a manner that when the ilap is foldedover the mouthyotI the holster and fastened it secures the wiper firmly in its sheath 5 or the sheath for contain'- ing the wiper may be placed on a diierent part of the holster and the wiper secured in the sheath in any convenient manner.
A A is the holster for containing' the pistol.
B is the flap, which folds over the top ot' the holster, and also secures the wiper in the sheath.
O is the button for fastening the flap B.
D D is the sheath for containing the wiper.
E E is the wiper, secured in the sheath by the flap B being folded over the top of it.
F is the cotton, saturated with oil, placed in the bottom of the sheath or pocket of the holster.
What I claim as new in my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l The attachment of the wiper E E and the sheath D lD to the holster A, substantially as described.
