UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEn VILLIAM H. BARRON, OF PRT HURON, MICHIGAN.
WASH-BOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,856, dated November 4, 1890.
Application Iiled July 31, 1890. Serial No. 360,554. (No model.) I
To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. BAERON, a
subject of the Queen of Great Britain, resid# ing at Port Huron, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam Boilers and Renovators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a wash-boiler and renovator; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction of an open-figured frame designed to be placed in the bottom of a washboiler to support the articles to be cleansed, whereby the steam will more readily permeate the articles, and whereby the greatest amount of steaming-surface is presented and in the most efficient form, all more fully hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figurel is a vertical section through a washboiler,
' showing my improved frame in elevation.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the frame detached; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the frame, also detached.
A is the wash-boiler, having a suitable cover B.
C is a wire frame of substantially rectangular shape, of a size to lit within the boiler A, having formed integral therewith the downwardly-extending loops D, forming the legs thereof. Centrally of this frame is secured the cross-bar E by means of the downwardlyextending legs F, which are provided with the inclined portions G, the Wholeforming abase or frame, upon which is stretched a suitable metallic webbing H, secured tol the frame C at its edge and to the cross-barEat the apex. This webbing when drawn over the cross-bar E and secured to the frame C has inclined sides a b and the inclined ends c d, all converging toward the middle of the wash-boiler and forming substantially a structure somewhat in the shape of a pyramid.
To use my apparatus, it is lplaced in the boiler and water is placed within to the depth of an inch orl more and the articles to be steamed placed within the frame.
In boiling the water the steam will penetrate through the clothes, feathers, or whatever is to be steamed in the most efficient manner, the frame offering no resistance to the passage of the steam and allowing the clothes to form a comparatively closed steamchamber, in which the steam may be highly superheated, thereby making it much more efficient.
It has been found in practice that with a device thus constructed clothes, feathers, and other articles may be effectively cleansed and renovated. The lightness of the frame thus constructed makes it easy to handle and the shape gives great strength and enables me to put in a large amount of clothes Without danger of damage to the parts.
Nhat I claim as my invention is- In a wash-boiler, the combination, with the boiler, of a removable frame formed of a single piece of wire having end loops and side loops forming supporting-legs, a cross-bar having downwardly-inclined ends secured to the vertical portion of the end loops of the frame, and a webbing secured to the frame and extending over the crossbar, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. WILLIAM H. BARRON.
Titnessesz M. B. ODOGHERTY, L. J. WHITTEMORE.
