UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADOLF FRIT-SCHI, OF SUISUN, CALIFORNIA.
CIGAR OR CIGARETTE HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 439,649, dated November 4', 1890. Application filed September 30, 1889. Serial No. 325 ,939. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LADOLF FEITscIII, a citizen of the United States, residing at Suisun, in the county of Solano, State of California, have invented a new and useful Cigar and Cigarette Pipe, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to holders for cigars and cigarettes; and among the objects in View are to provide a holdei1 so constructed as to permit of a complete consumption of the cigar, and which will separate the nicotine from the smoke, thus deducing from the smoke its injurious qualities, and to provide means for retaining the nicotine and subsequently discharging the same.
With these general objects in View the invention consists in a tube or cylinder provided at one end with a mouth-piece and upon its under side with a depending bulb communicating with the tube through a contracted neck and having at its lower end a removable plug, whereby the contents of the bulb may be discharged.
The invention further consists in a perforated spike or spur, the pointed end of which projects through the wall of the tube at a point diametrically opposite the bulb, passes through the tube, and terminates in the bulb, and is therefore surrounded by the contracted neck of the latter.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of a holder embodying the invention, a cigar being shown in position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of a holder constructed after my invention. Fig. 3 is a plan thereof.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in all the gures of the drawings.
The holder comprises in its make-up a hollow tube A, one end of which :is closed and the other provided with an ordinary preferably removable mouth-piece H. Depending from the under side of the tube A is a hollow bulb F, communicating by a contracted neck I with the bore or interior of the tube A. Diametrically opposite the contracted neck I, which would be the lower portion of the bulb, the same is provided with an opening K, preferably threaded, and mounted removably in the opening, is a plug G.
An imperforate spur C rises from the front upper portion of the tube or holder A, and 1n rear of the same and diametrically opposite the bulb F, there passes vertically and dia- Inetrically through the tube A a perforated spur B, the perforations D thereof being formed near the upper sharpened end 0f the same and communicating with the interior or bore of the spur. The pointed end of the spur projects above the surface of the holder, and the lower end thereof terminates within the bulb F, and, in conjunction with the contracted neck I of said bulb, forms an annular communicating port or opening, as will be readily understood.
The manner of using my invention is as follows: A cigar or cigarette is mounted upon the perforate and imperforate spurs C and B, the latter being inserted in the tip of the cigar. In smoking the smoke is drawn down through the portsD into the hollow spur and delivered in the hollow bulb F at a point considerably below the contracted neck I. The bulb becomes charged with smoke, which is drawn therefrom through the annular port I into the tube A, and passes thence through the mouth-piece II into the mouth. It will be apparent that the nicotine will be in a great measure separated from the smoke while the latter is in the chamber, and in this way the smoke will at -the time it reaches the mouth be freed from those impurities so injurious to the health. The bulb, after becoming iilled, or partially so, with nicotine, may be readily emptied by removing the plug G, and the device may be also thoroughly cleaned in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 9 The combination, with the tube A, closed at one end and having a mouth-piece at the opposite end and provided at its forward end with a spur C, a bulb arranged at the under side of the tube at a point intermediate of its ends and communicating with the same through a contracted neck, and provided at its lower side with a removable plug, of a straight hollow perforated spur mounted in the tube and passing directly and diametrically through the same and having its lower end terminating within the bulb and forming an annular port in conjunction with the contracted neck thereof, substantially as specified.
A. FRITSCHI.
