ARTHUR EDWARD J ONES, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN PIN COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CURTAIN-ROD FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. d38,109, dated October '7, 1890. Application filed July 5, 1890. Serial No. 357,794- (No model-l To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR EDWARD J onns, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Rod Fixtures; andI do hereby declare the following to be a. full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fixtures for the attachment and support of curtain and portiere rods, and has for its object to improve upon the construction of devices of this character heretofore made and to provide a fixture of great simplicity and strength; and with these ends in view my invention consists in the construction and combination of elements, hereinafter fully explained, and then recited in the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my inventiorvappertains may fully understand its construction and method of operation, I will describe the same in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective showing my device arranged upon a rod and in position for attachment; Fig. 2, a similar View after attachment; Fig. 3, a transverse section; Fig. 4, a longitudinal section.
Like numerals denote the same parts in all the figures.
1 represents a base, which is preferably cupshaped and formed either by casting or by drawing from sheet metal, and is designed to be attached to the door or window casing by means of screws 2 or other similar fastenings. Said base has formed upon opposite sides thereof projecting lugs 3, preferably two in number. The base just described is subtantially equal in diameter with the exterior of the rod, which latter I designate by the numeral 4:.
5 is a collar or ring of such size as to slide freely upon the rod 4 and to fit over the base 1. Said ring is provided with slots 6, extend- 5c size and shape as to readily admit and inclose the lugs 3 In the operation of my invention the bases, there being one for each end of the rod, are securedflto the opposite inner surfaces of the door orwindoyv casing, between which the rod is intended to be supported. The rings are then slipped over the rod, the latter being of such lengthas to readily pass between the opposed bases. When in this position, the rings are moved outward along the rod and over the bases, the slots being at this time in coincidence with the lugs. Said rings are then given a partial turn, so as to move the slots out of coincidence with the lugs, when said rings are firmly secured as against withdrawal from engagement with the bases by the engagement of the lugs and the groove. To remove the rod, the rings are simply turned so as to bring the lugs opposite the slots, when they may be freely withdrawn along the rod and the latter removed.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination, with a base having out wardly-projecting lugs upon its surface, of the ring provided with longitudinal slots and adapted to fit over the base, and also provided with an annular groove intersecting the slots and adapted to contain the lugs, substan tially' as described.
2. The fixture for supporting curtain-rods and the like, substantially as described, and consisting of the cup-shaped metal base having oppositely-arranged lugs thereon, the ring adapted to slide longitudinally upon the rod and provided with slots 6, and the groove 7, opening out of the slots, all combined and arranged as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereofl aifix my signature in presence of witnesses.
ARTHUR EDWVARD JONES.
