SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 437,606, dated September 30, 1890. Application filed February 15, 1890. Serial No. 3%,605. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL KINT, of Alpena, in the county of J erauld and State of South Dakota, have invented anew and Improved Land-Roller, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The objectof the invention is to provide a new and improved land-roller which is simple and durable in construction, very effective in operation, and in which the'rollers are selfadjustingly mounted in the frame to more readily adapt the device to the ground.

The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and then pointed out in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forinin g a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of theimprovement with parts in section, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.

Between the front and rear beams B and B of the main frame B are secured sets of chains E E and E E, supporting at or near their middles bearings F F and F F, in which are journaled the axles H and H of the rollers I and 1, respectively held between the front and rear beams B and B of the main frame B. By thus mounting the rollers I and I in the main frame B they are free to revolve and at the same time to readily pass over uneven ground without affecting the frame B, as the sets of chains E E and E E, respectively, permit a free and easy motion of the rollers.

Each of the rollers I, I, and I is preferably made hollow and filled with stones or other articles to give the rollers considerable weight.

It will be seen that the sets of chains in which the rollers are j ournaled permit the latter to swing up or down at either end, according to the nature of the ground over which the said rollers pass. The driver in the seat .is thus not affected by the rollers passing over uneven ground, as the frame B will not receive any jar or jerk, as so frequently occurs in land-rollers inwhich the rollers are mounted in bearings rigidly secured to the frame. It will further be seen that the animals pulling the roller are not struck by the tongue 0, as so often occurs in the ordinary rollers in passing over rough ground.

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A land-roller consisting of the frame having front and rear beams B B the two transverse horizontally-aligned rollers I I, each having bearings at their ends, chains connected to said bearings and to the said front and rear beams, and a third transverse roller 1 suspended at its ends by chains in rear of and between the two rollers I 1, substantially as set forth.

2. A land-roller consisting in the connected front and rear beams B B theplatform connecting said beams at their middle portions and provided with a seat D, the transverse horizontally-aligned rollers I 1 between the beams at opposite sides of the platform and provided with end bearings and chains connected to said bearings and beams, the beam J, connected by braces K to the rear beam B and the transverse intermediate roller 1 suspended at its ends by chains E from the beams B J, substantially as set forth.
