PAPER FILE.
No. 436,766. Patented Sept. 16, 1896.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH A. FOURNIER, OF OTTAWA, CANADA.
PAPER FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,766, dated September 16, 1890. Application filed March 13, 1890- Serial No. 343,787. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH A. FOURNIER, of the city of Ottawa, in the county of Carleton and Province of Ontario, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paper-Files; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention, which will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, relates to devices for filing papers, bills, and the like.
The object of the invention is a simple, inexpensive, and secure means of keeping and preserving wrapping-papers, bills, letters, and the like in stores, ofiices, and other places.
Figure 1 is a side View of my improved file, the dotted lines showing the needle raised preparatory to placing papers in it. Fig. 2 is a section showing theneedle down and papers suspended. thereon. Fig. 3 is a front view of the foot of the file; and Fig. at is an inside view of the head or end of the file, showing the slot therein.
Ais the body of my improved file, consisting of a narrow goose-neck-shaped bar having a flat foot A and a head A" approximately opposite the foot. Said body is preferably produced in cast metal. The foot A is only made wide enough to be secured upon the edge of an inch-board, but may be made wider, and in the upper part thereof is cast in the head of a wood-screw B. Further means of securing the same are provided by forming a notch 11. on each side in the edge of the foot, a little lower than the screw B, so thata wood-screw can be inserted, if desired. At the lower end of the foot is formed a slot or recess a, in which is pivoted a needle.
0 is the needle, formed with an eye a, which is pivoted in the recess a by a pin 0, the heel of said eye bearing against the face of the recess. In the head A a slot at. is formed, into which the point of said needle extends and rests upon the end thereof. If it is de sired to place one or more papers upon the file, the needle 0 is turned up, as shown in Fig. 1, and the papers placed opposite the slot in the head A, the point of the needle hearing on it. The papers are then drawn down, when the needle-point penetrates the same.
I claim as my invention A paper-file consisting of a goose-neckshaped bar A, having foot A, with fixed screw and recess a, and having a head A", with slot a to support the point of the needle, screw B, cast in said foot for readily securing the same in place, and a needle 0, pivoted in the recess a, and having its point extending and resting in the slot a, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed myname in the presence of the undersigned witnesses. JOSEPH A. FOURNIER.
Witnesses:
A. HARVEY, A. TROWSE.
