Description

J. D. ENNES. NEOKT'IE- FASTENER.
No. 436,128. PatentedSept. 9, 1890.
WZLt77/6 new InUg/f/tar' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. ENNES, OF NORFOLK, VIRGINIA.
NECKTlE-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 436,128, dated September 9, 1890.
Application filed September 21, 1889 Serial No. 324,597- (No model.
To all whom it may 00121 097 711:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. ENNES, a citizen of the United States, residing in Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oravat-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to articles used to secure in an'adjustable relation scarfs or other neckwear to studs or to the bosom of a shirt, and has for its object the provision of an article cheap in manufacture, simple in construction, and efficient and durable in practical use.
To attain the desired end. my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 represents my invention in practical use, and Figs. 2 and 3 are detail views.
Similar letters wherever they occur indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring again to the drawings, A represents my cravat-holder provided with an upper. coil A, terminating in a point a, and also with a hook a placed at the lower extremity of the same, the depending coil A of which forms a projection which serves to provide a part to engage with the finger when the same is manipulated, as for the purpose of unhooking or removing the holder from the shirt button or stud O. Y
My holder is preferably made of springwire flattened, although any other approved material may be used, and'is ordinarily provided with a blunt or curved point, which may depend somewhat, forming a flaring mouth, in order to become easily engaged and disengaged with the button 0.
My holder is easily adjusted to and interlocked with the cravat by means of the spring engaging coil A and point a at any suitable point convenient for hooking the same to the shirt-buttons, the spring-coil A serving both to give the hook elasticity in order to accommodate the same to different-sized buttons and also to securely hold fast thereto in order not to work loose by reason of the strain caused by the different movements of the person, and does not fray or otherwise mar the shirt-bosom D'. It is not easily lost, and being constructed in one solid piece is indestructible in its use.
. I claim- In a cravat-holder formed of a single piece of resilient material, a straight portion, a pointed spring-coil at one end of said straight portion, a spring-hook at its opposite end, and a coil in said hook to supply the proper resiliency to the latter, substantially as and for the purpose described,
In testimony of the foregoing specification I do hereby sign the same, in the city of Norfolk, county of Norfolk, and State of Virginia, this 14th day of September, A. D. 1889. v JOHN D. ENNES. Witnesses:
A. B. SELDNER,
H. ROBERTS.
