COMBINED BABY CHAIR AND WALKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 434,'713, dated August 19, 1890. Application filed ct0ber 22, 1889. Serial No. 327,75 5. (No model.)
To aZ Z whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR J AOOB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Saginaw, county of Saginaw, State of Michigan, have lnvented a certain new and useful Improvement 111 Combined Baby Chairs and Walkers; and'I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
- In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side'elevation of my chair. Fig. 2 is a part section of the upper part of my chair. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the lower part of my chair.
This invention relates to that class of combined baby chairs and walkers in which said parts are detachably connected, so that the baby-walker can be used alone or be made to form the supporting portion of the chair; and the lllVQIllllOItCOIlSlStSill the construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In carrying out my invention, A represents the base of my baby-walker, having suitable wheels or casters A, and above this, supported by the standards B,.is the upper ring 0. On this upper ring rests the chair proper. This may be any suitable shape; but I prefer to form it as shown, with a base-piece D, supporting by suitable blocks the seat E, and from this-build the back and arms F. A suitable foot-rest G may also be provided.
I will now describe the mode of attaching the chair to the lower part or walker. In the upper ring 0 of the latter I provide the vertical notch c and extending into this a horizontal groove 0', and I provide the lowerpart of the chair with suitable projections d, adapted to enter the notch and groove and form a bayonet-joint. A spring (1, adapted to enter the notch 0 may be employed to keep the parts in place, as shown.
My invention also consists in the mode of attaching the table or tray on the top of the arms to hold the child in the chair.
I will now describcthe manner of attaching the same to the chair.
H represents the tray; J, the hinge attached to one arm of the chair and having the lip J, to which one end of the tray is pivoted. The other end of the tray is held to the other arm by the clip J fastened to the end of the tray-and engaging over the arm, and is prevented from withdrawing by the spring J which enters the notch j in the arm. lVhen it is desirable, the spring may be raised out of the notch, and the end of the tray pulled from the arm and swung around, and because of being pivoted to the hinge it will drop alongside of the chair and be ready for use when it is desired to throw it up again with the child in the chair.
The advantages arising from combining the baby-walker with the chair will be apparent, and the advantage of pivoting the tray to the chair, as shown, is that it is always at hand when wanted and can be let down to the side and out of the way.
Another improvement in my chair is the provision in the arm of the strip of metal K, let into the end thereof, as shown, and the edge projecting slightly above the surface of the arm, so that as the end of the tray is slipped onto the arm it will not scratch the surface nor mar the varnish.
That I claim is 1. In a babys chair, the combination, with the base mounted on casters and adapted to form a baby-walker and an upper ring 0, having the vertical notches 0, horizontal grooves c, and notch 0 of the chair portion having the base-piece D, provided with the projections d and spring (1' to engage said upper ring of the baby-walker, substantially as described;
2. In a babys chair, the combination, with the chair-arms and atray provided at one end with a hinge J, attached to one arm of the chair, and having a lip J, to which the said end of the tray is pivoted, of the stationary clip J rigidly attached to the other end of the tray to engage the adjacent chair-arm, and the spring J attached to the under side of the tray and adapted to enter a notch j in that chair-arm with which said clip is engaged, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I sign this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR JACO B. Witnesses:
C. G. FOWLER, OT'ro STEMPELL.
