Description

(No Model.) WOEK' SAVES TROUGH. No. 434,310. Patented Aug. 12, 1890.
WIT/VESSES: 6
[NI/EH70]? M HM ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WOEK, OF CANTON, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE CANTON STEEL ROOFING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
EAVES-TROUGH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 434,310, dated August 12, 1890. Application filed May 1, 1890. Serial No. 350,l85| (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN \VOEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oanton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eaves-Troughs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speci fication, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a portion of a sheet, showing its form before it is folded. Fig. 2 is a view of a portion of a section of an eavestrough, showing it properly folded to receive the end of an adjacent section. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the end of one of the sections, showing the same properly folded to receive and hold an adjacent section. Fig. 4 is a view of the end of a portion of a section,
showing the bead in a different position.
Fig. 5 is a view of a portion of asection to be received in the folded end of its adjacent section. Fig. 6 is a view showing the sections placed into position to be locked together.
The present invention has relation to eavestroughs; and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.
in the accompanying drawings, A represents the eaves-trough sections, which may be formed of any desired length or size. One end of each of the sectionsA is provided with the narrowed extension or, which extension is folded against the section A on the dotted line a; co and a portion of said narrowed extension again folded against itself on the line y y, thereby forming the groove 1) and the guide I), which guide 1) extends a short distance beyond the end of the section A, as illustrated in Figs. 2, 3, 4, and 6. For the purpose of easily entering the sections the end of the section A which extends beyond the narrowed extension a is cut or formed at an angle to the balance of the end of said section A, thereby forming the end of the bead c obliquely to the end of the section A and at the same time exposing to view a portion of the lip d.
It will be understood that by my peculiar formation I am enabled to partially enter one end of the head 0 into the adjacent end of the head 0 before or in advance of the entrance of the end of the section A into the groove 1), thereby making it easy to unite the sections A together. For the purpose of assisting the entrance of the section A the outer end of the narrowed extension at is inclined, as illustrated in Fig. 1.
The extension B is for the purpose of assisting in securely holding the sections A together and at the same time prevent any sagging of the trough proper at its joints.
It will be understood that in use the section Ashould be extended to the extreme end of the groove 17.
It will be understood that by forming one end of the head 0 obliquely or spirally the operator will be enabled when connecting the sections A together to see when the lips cl and the beads c are in proper relation to each 7 5 other to unite or look the sections A together.
If desired, the narrowed extension a may be extended or cutbeyond the dotted line a: w, thereby extending the bead 0 past or beyond the groove 1).
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is. I
1. The combination of the sections A, provided with the head 0, having an oblique end, and the narrowed extension a, bent to form the groove 1) and the guide It, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. The section A, provided with the bead 0, having one of its ends formed obliquely to the end of the section, and the lip 01, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The sections A, provided with the bead c, and having one end of the bead 0 cut or formed obliquely to the end of the section A, 5 substantially as and for thepurpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN \VOEK.
