IMPROVEMENT IN BELT-CLASPS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GUsrAVTTs CUPPERs, of the city and county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Clasp for Holding the Ends ot' Belting for Driving Machinery; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying iigures, which represent an edge View of' a belt with the clasp properly applied.

A represents one end, and A2 the opposite end, of a belt. The purpose of my invention is to strongly hold these. ends together.

B is the outer cheek of my clamp, and C is the inner cheek thereof.

D is a screw or aline of screws hich hold B and O firmly toge'her.

The ends ot' the cheek B are armed with lips b b2, which stand at right angles to the interior face of B, and are adapted to overhang the ends of the inner cheek in the manner represented, so as to compel the ends A A2 to bend at right angles, or nearly so, in the spaces between (l and B b', and between C and B b2. These angular bends in the belt assist in maintaining a firm union of the parts. The inner faces of B and C may be corrugated or rid ged transversely, as represented, and two or more lines of screws, D, or equivlent fastenings, may be used instead of one line, if preferred.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows The construction and use of belt-clas1 s formed as herein described, the material of tLe belt being bent at a right angle, or nearly so, between the lips L b2 and the bodies B and C for the purpose herein set forth.
