UNITED STATES WILLARD H. SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N.Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-BURNERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 42. l 22, dated March 29,.1864.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W. E. SMITH, of the city of New York, in the State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lamp- Bnrner; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making 'a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective drawing. Fig. 2
represents the interior ring, holding the mica insulator to the outer shell, with the cone elevated. Fig. 3 is a sectional representation showing more clearly the mode of applying the mica.
' vening one of mica, f, fastened together by rivets or otherwise, the inner ring having a flange at the top to prevent the cap, when adjusted to the wick-tube, from sliding down too far. The mica should be pretty thick, and may be fastened by rivets or small indentations in the metal rings investing it. The insulator for the base of the cone is made by placing a similar ring of mica, b, between the shell a and an interior metal ring, 0, so constructed with a flange at its bottom that the cone may rest upon it. The lamp and burner in all other respects may be in any of the forms in common use, and the cap especially for the wick-tube may be applied to other lamps already manufactured.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The cape f g, constructed and applied as and for the purpose herein set forth.
2. The insulator a b 0, constructed and applied as and for the purpose herein set forth.
3. The combination of the insulators e f g and a I) c in the same burner, constructed, combined, and applied as and for the purpose herein set forth.
W. H. SMITH. In presence ofr MARSHALL BARBER, S. A. How.
