UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AROHIBALD SCOTT, OF UNIONTOWN, WASHINGTON, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JNO. L. ERNEST, OF SAME PLACE.
SlNGLETREE-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 428,531 dated May 20, 1890. Application filed March 21, 1890. Serial No. 344,763. (No model.)
.the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itpertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvementin singletree-hooks; and it consists in ahook of the peculiar form hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a singletree-hook with a guard which extends at right angles to the hook, and having its upper end projecting backward, and thus do away with all possibility of the trace ever becoming accidentally unfastened.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a singletreehook which embodies my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the same.
A represents a ferrule which fits over the end of the singletree, and B the hook which extends horizontally therefrom, and which extends outward toward the outer end of the singletree. Formed as a part of this hook and rising above it is the curved guard O, which serves to prevent the trace from ever slipping accidentally off the hook. The corners D of the hook project outward from both sides of the lower end of the guard, and thus serve to prevent any possibility of the trace moving outward from the end of the hook and catching on the guard alone.
It will be seen that the ferrule, the hook, and the guard are all formed in a single piece, and that the guard rises from the outer end of the hook, so that the trace cannot possibly become detached until its end has been raised and carried backward beyond the rear-end of the guard.
Having thus described my invention, I claim A singletree-hook which extends horizontally outward, and which has a curved guard rising at right angles, and having its upper end projecting backward, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AROHIBALD SCOTT.
