Description

(No Model.)
J. A. RAABE.
TOY.
Patented Apr. 8, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.I l LIl'S A. ltAAliE, Ob S'l. IIQUIS, MISSOURI.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 425,343, dated April 8, 1890.
Application filed May 21, 1S 89. Serial No. 311,621. (No model.)
To all? whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, JULIUS A. Rib-ten, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Toys, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying: drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which 'lhis toy has a cup set transversely at the end of a stem and a ball secured thereto by an elastic connection.
Figure I is a perspective \IOW oi the toy. Fig. II is a perspective View showing a modification of the cup. l ig. III is a detail enlarged side view.
The cup 1 may be made of any suitable material. In Fig.1 the material is sheet metal with orifices giving" lightness and improi'ed appearance. in Figs. II and III the cup is shown as formed of wire. The stem or staff 2 I prefer to form of thin sheet-metal tubing, but do not confine myself to any special material or detail of COllStl'llCilOll. The stem and handle it may suitably be made of wood. lietween the stem and the cup is a llexible connection I, which is shown as consisting" of a coil of wire, but which maybe made of rubber. 'lhis llexible connect ion is for the purpose of increasing the diifieulty of catching the ball and thus make the toy more interesting and amusing in use, for it will be understood that the position of the cup or basket 1 will be rendered uncertain. The ball 5 may preferably be made of light wood, papiermacho, or rubber, either hollow or solid. The cord 8 between the ball and the cup I prefer to make of elastic material, such as rubber, but inelastic material may be used, such as common string or thread. I prefer to secure one end of the cord 6 to the bottom of the cup, as seen in Figs. II and III; but the cord [3 may be attached to another part of the cup or to the stem or flexible connection 4.
7 is a whistle in the end of the handle I claim as my invention-- 1. The combination of the cup 1, stem 52, flexible connection l between the stem and cup, and ball 5, connected to other part of the toy by cord 6, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the stem 3 with cup l, secured thereto by a flexible connection 4 between the stem and cup, the ball 5, and elastic cord 6, connecting the ball to the cup.
