PATENT EETCE.
ALBERT C. BECKER, OF MANITOOO, W'ISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO THE LAKE SHORE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
GRATER AND SLICER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 411,568, dated September 24, 1889. Application filed May 2, 1889. Serial No. 309,393. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may con/cern.:
Be it known that l, ALBERT C. BECKER, of Manitowoc, in the county of Manitowoc and State of Visoonsin, have inventeda new and useful Improvement in Graters and Slicers,
of which the following is, a specification.
My invention consists in a new and improved combined grater and slicer, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view. Fig. 2 is a rear view. Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section. Fig. 4. is a detail side View, and Fig. 5 is a vertical section.
The same letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Referring to the several parts by letter, A indicates the curved perforated front of my invention, which forms the scraper proper. This front A is strengthened at its top and bottom edges by having the said edges bent around strong semicircular wires A A, while the long side edges of the perforated front are bent around the extended side pieces B 2 5 B of the stout wire handle B, which preferably has a convenient round hand-piece C upon it, and is inclined forward, as shown. The Hat metal back D has its top and bottom edges bent over to re-enforce them, and its side edges are bent over the re-enforced side edges of the front A. It will thus be seen that my new and improved scraper and slicer is exceedingly strong and durable.
The curved front A is formed with perforations, which are made of the new and novel form shown, consisting each of a small slot E, at the lower edge of which the metal is pressed out to form two small pockets or projections E E in the form ofaW. The number of these projections may of course be varied. The grater is rendered far more effective in use by this novel form of apertures, and their peculiar shape prevents them from clogging up, which is a great advantage over the common form of graters.
The fiat metal back D. of the grater is formed with a slot F, which is preferably inclined, as shown, to give adrawcut, and the metal at the lower edge of this slot is curved out and up, struck up, and its free edge sharpened to form a cutting-edge F', thus forming in the back of the grater a Slicer, which is exceedingly convenient for cutting slaw or slicing any vegetables.
From vthe foregoing description, taken in 5 5 connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
lt will be seen that my new and improved combined grater and slicer is'strong and sini- 6o ple in construction and very effective and satisfactory in its operation. l
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, the combined grater and slicer, consisting of the curved front A, formed with the small rectangular slots E and theW-shaped proj ections E', the Iiat metal back D, formed with 7o the inclined slot F and cutting-edge F, and the wire handle D, having the extended side pieces B', around which the side edges of the front A and back D are bent, substantially as set forth.
