UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY I. SMITH, OF SYRACUSE, XEIV YORK, ASSIGNOR T0 JOHN H. DUN- CAN AND FRANK A. HALE, BOTII OF SAME PLACE.
HOLDER FOR CALENDARS AND MEMORANDA COMBINED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 417,106, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed December 3, 1888- Serial No. 292,482. (No model.)
To aZZ 2011,0712, it may OOH/0077b.
Be it known that I, HENRY 1. SMITH, of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holders for Calendars and Memoranda Combined, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention is designed for holding and filing in a convenient manner calendars composed of detached sheets placed in a pile and each having printed on one of its sides one of the days of the Week and dates of the month, and having the opposite side blank for writing memoranda thereon; and to that end the invention consists, essentially, of two contiguous beds formed in one piece and provided with perforations'at opposite sides of the line of juncture and a bow or bows formed in one piece and having both ends detachably inserted in the aforesaid perforations and sustained vertically in their position, all as hereinafter more fullydescribed, and specifically set forth in the claim.
The invention is fully illustrated in the annexed drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan View with portion of the files torn away to illustrate the underlying beds; and Fig. 3 isa vertical longitudinal section on line :r 00, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
B B represent two rectangular beds orbase plates, which are contiguous and in range with each other, and preferably formed in onepiece and wit-h vertical walls a a along opposite sides thereof. Across the junction of said beds are placed U-shaped bows C 0, each of imprinted on one side of each sheet the day of the week and date of the month, and, if desired, also a miniature calendar of said month, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawings. These sheets are attached to the bows C O by removing the latter from the beds B B and piercing the pile of the sheets at proper points by one of the prongs of each bow C and then securing the bows in erect positions to the beds B B in the manner hereinbefore described.
At the beginning of the year all the sheets are hung on one limb or prong of each bow C so as to lie on one of the beds B, said sheets being piled in regular calendar order and with the first day of the year uppermost. Then as each day passes the aforesaid sheets are slipped accordingly up and over the tops of the bows C O and down on the other limbs of the bows, and in this manner the sheets are inverted and transferred from one to the other of the beds B B. By inverting the sheets during the aforesaid transfer from one bed to the other said sheets are caused to present the blank backs'upon which to write lnemoranda, which are retained and filed in regular order on the second bed B by the bows O G.
I do not limit myself to the employment of two bows, as it is obvious that only one of said bows may be employed.
What I claim is- The improved holder for calendars and memoranda combined, consisting of two contiguous beds B B, formed in one piece and provided with perforations c c at opposite sides of the line of juncture, and the bow 0,
formed in one piece and having both ends detachably inserted in the aforesaid perforations and sustained vertically in its position, substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name, in the presence of two witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, this 30th day of November, 1888.
