Description

(No Model.)
F. B. BROOK.
LIFIING JACK. No. 415,703. Patented Nov. 26, 1889.
N. PETERS a UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FENELON B. BROOK, OF \VASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
LlFTlNG-JACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 415,703, dated November 26, 1889.
Application filed October 4, 1889.
. To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FENELON B. BROOK,- a citizen of the United States, residing at WVashington, in the. District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in LiftingJacks' and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to lifting-jacks.
My invention is designed more particularly for use as a wagon-jack; but it is obvious that it maybe used for any purpose for which it may prove applicable.
My improvement consists in the following construction and combination of parts, which will first be fully described, and the points of novelty then set forth in the claim.
Figures 1, 2, and 3 are perspective views of my improved wagon-jack in several positions.
A represents the longer lever of the jack. This lever is provided with a series of rests B, designed to bear up against the axle of the wagon to be raised.
0 represents the shorter lever of the jack.
D is the bolt or other fastening pivoting one end of lever C to the lever A, so as to swing thereon.
E is a stop-bolt located on lever A and projecting in the path of the lever C, so as to limit the upward movement thereof.
In operation the jack is operated by slip Serial No. 326,061. (No model.)
ping the lower end of lever A under the wagon-axle, and pushing against the upper end thereof, or by raising the lever O on its pivot until it strikes the bolt E, as shown in Fig. 3, when the axle may be raised by pulling upon the lever O. The bolt E prevents the lever C from swinging any farther upward when pulling upon it. When the wheel on the axle has cleared the ground, the lever O is allowed to fall to the ground, the lever A being held in position by pressure against its upper end until the lever C has assumed its position as a brace in connection withthe lower end of lever A. The lever A is simply pushed forward to allow the wheel and axle to drop to the ground, or by pulling out the brace O.
I may use any form of levers. The bolt E may be upon lever C, if desired. Instead of bolt E, any other form of stop may be usedas a block of wood bolted on the levers for instance.
I claim In a lifting-jack, the combination of a main lever having a shoulder or shoulders thereon, another lever or brace pivoted to the main lever at an intermediate point thereof, and a stop upon one of the levers to limit the movement, whereby the jack may be operated by a leverage upon either lever, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
