J. H. BIRCH. DOUBLE POINTED PIN.
No. 404,675. Patented June 4, 1889-.
N. Pnsns Phula-Ulhngn c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES H. BIRCH, OF PLATTSBURG, MISSOURI.
DOUBLE-POINTED PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 404,675, dated June 4, 1889.
Application filed November 9, 1883- Serial 110,290,352.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JAMES H. BIRCH, a citizen of the United Stat-es of America, residing at Plattsburg, in the county of Clinton and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Double- Pointed Hooks or Pins, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in double-pointed hooks or pins; and it consists of the detailed construction of the same, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is a modification of the same.
In carrying out my invention I form the pin A with two hooks a a,.one at each end, facing either in the same or in opposite directions. The ends of these hooks are sharppointed and are inclined or bent inwardly toward the main or body portion of the pin. By this ineans it is impossible for-the points of the hooks to scratch or otherwise injure the hand or person of the wearer, and at the same time they firmly or securely hold the pinned or united part of a persons apparel.
(N0 model.)
In Fig. 2 I have shown the bend or loop I) at the lower side of the body of the pin or 0 hook, which will serve as a spring and permit the sides or sections of the pin to readily yield and spring back to their normal position, as is apparent.
My invention is extremely simple and cheap, 3 5
and by means thereof a neat and attractive pin is secured, and one which will firmly hold the parts of a persons dress and at the same time the pointed ends will be out of the way, so as to do no damage to the wearer.
I claim as my invention- The double-pointed pin or hook having a central looped or coiled portion forming a spring and having arms extending in the same straight line, and provided with inwardly 5 curved and pointed ends, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES H. BIRCH.
