Description
W. KLOENNE.
Releasing Stock from Stalls.-
Patented Oct. 27, 1863.
. UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICE.
WILLIAM KLOENNE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
iMPROVEMENT IN DEVICES FOR RELEASING ANIMALS FROM STALLS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 40,4 6, dated October 27, 1863; antedated October 10, 1863.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1,.WILLIAM KLOENNE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and 1m proved Device for Beleasing Horses, &c., from Stables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a face "iew of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same, taken in the plane indicated by the line 00 m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference in both views indicate correspondingparts.
The object of this invention is to arrange the device or devices which serve to fasten a number of horses in a stable in such a manner that either horse can be detached singly, or the whole series simultaneously.
The; invention consists in the arrangement of a spring-bolt sliding in a case and catching in a suitable socket, in combination with a slotted bar and pin. projecting from the bolt into the slot of said barin such a manner that the bolt can be drawn back either by pulling on the rear end of the bolt itself, or by pulling on the slotted rod.
It consists, further, in the combination of a series of spring-bolts with a series of slotted bars, which are connected with each other by links or by any other suitable means in such a manner that by pulling a handle attached to one end of said series of bars the whole series of bolts is drawn back, and the horses fastened by them are released simultaneously, at the same time allowing of detaching each horse singly whenever desired.
To enable those skilled in the art to make and use my invention, 1 will proceed to describe it.
A represents a bolt, which slides in a case, B, and which catches in a socket, O. The case B is secured to the front side of the troughD in a stable, and a spring, a, which is secured with one end to the socket and with the other to a pin, 1), projecting from the inner side of the bolt, draws the bolt into the socket, as
clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. By
drawing the bolt back a ring, E, which is intended to be secured to the end of the halter, can be introduced between the end of the case B and the socket O, and on releasing the bolt it passes through said ring and retains the same, together'with the halter and the horse that may be attached to it. The pin 1), which projects from the under side of the bolt, catches into a slot, 0, in a bar, F, which slides in a suitable groove under the case B in front of the trough D. This bar is slotted so that the bolt can be drawn back independently of the bar by taking hold of the rear end of the bolt itself, or, when desired, the bolt can also be drawn back by pulling the bar. In large stables, where a number of horses are to be fastened, the bolts serving fortlns purpose are attached to the front side of the trough at suitable distances apart, and the several slotted bars F are connected by links 67, (see Fig. 2,) so that by pulling one bar thewhole series is compelled to move together. By the arrangementof the slots 0 in the several bars each of the bolts can be drawn back independent of the others, and consequently each horse can be released singly whenever desired, or, in case of fire or whenever it may be desirable,
, the whole series of horses can be released simultaneously by pulling; thehandle G, which is secured to the end of one of the bars F. By pulling this handle the several rings E drop down and the horses are free.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The arrangement of a spring-bolt, A, moving in a case, B, and catchingin a socket, O, in combination with the slotted bar F and pin 1), constructed and operating as and for purpose described.
2. The combination of a series of bolts, A, with pins 1) and slotted bars F, provided with a handle, G, substantially as and for the pur-- pose specified.
WM. KLOENNE. Witnesses:
M. S. PARTRIDGE, DANIEL ROBERTSON.
