Claims (11)

1. A process for producing foundry sand molds comprising the steps of assembling cope and drag flasks with a pattern therebetween, placing the drag flask up and filling it with sand, preliminarily squeezing the sand therein, then turning the assembly over and filling the cope flask with sand, squeezing such sand in both the cope and drag flasks, vertically separating the cope and drag flasks, and then laterally indexing such flasks vertically separated for coring and closing.
2. A process as set forth in claim 1 including the step of jolting the cope and drag flasks to facilitate the ramming of sand therein.
3. A process as set forth in claim 1 including the step of supporting peripherally the cope flask as the drag flask is filled, and supporting the preliminarily squeezed sand cake within the drag flask as the cope flask is filled.
4. A process as set forth in claim 1 wherein the assembly is turned over by the retraction and extension of a piston-cylinder assembly having controlled deceleration on extension.
5. A process for producing completed foundry sand molds comprising the steps of ramming cope and drag flasks with a pattern therebetween at one station, vertically separating such flasks to draw the pattern therefrom, indexing such vertically separated flasks to a second station, holding such flasks vertically separated at such second station to permit coring, and then closing such flasks and stripping the sand molds therefrom.
6. A process as set forth in claim 5 including two sets of cope and drag flasks, and indexing such sets alternately to and from the two stations.
7. A process as set forth in claim 5 including the step of indexing empty flasks into such one station as the sand rammed flasks are indexed from such one station.
8. A process as set forth in claim 5 including the steps of placing the drag flask up and filling it with sand at such one station, preliminarily squeezing the sand therein and then turning the assembly over and filling the cope-flask with sand and then finally squeezing such sand in both the cope and drag flasks.
9. A process as set forth in claim 5 wherein the ramming of the cope and drag flasks is accomplished by both high pressure squeeze and jolt.
10. A process as set forth in claim 5 including the step of placing a bottom board under the sand molds at the second station.
11. A process as set forth in claim 5 wherein the closing of such flasks and the stripping of the sand molds therefrom is accomplished at such second station.
