F. C. WEIR 8u N, O. GOIIDSMITL` RAILWAY PROG. 110.398.201. Patented Feb. 19,1889.

Xp T/ep l z bhe FREDRIC C. wWEIR AND NATHANIEL O. GOLDSMITH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, i
ASSIGNORS TO THE VEIR FROG COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
RAILWAY-FROG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 398,201, dated February 19, 1889.
Application filed May 24, 1888. Serial No. 274,911. (No model.) Y
b @ZZ whom it' may concern:
Be it known that we, FREDRIC C. WEIR and NATHANIEL O. (.roLDsMrri-i, of Cincinnati, in 1 the county oi? Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful 1inproveinents in Railway-Frogs, of which the following is a speciiication.
The objeet of our invention is to eonstruet a frog of center-hearing girder-rails for street 4 railways in a Cheap, strong, and convenient manner.
The features ol our` il'nf'ention will be fully set forth in the description of the accompanying draw-ings, making a part of this specification, in whieh- Figure l is a top plan view. tion on line a it, Fig. l. Fig. tion ol' Fig.
AWe have shown the frog as constructed ot' center-hearing gi1'der-rails,hut these are the equivalentof sidehearing girder-rails.
The points are constructed as follows: A A represent girder-rails, which are beveled oft' to have their heads and flanges abut each other, as shown in Fig. The rails B B are Fig. 2 is a secis a modificahent to forni guard and main-traek rails in the usual manner of frogs. The said rails A A and B B are then secured t0 the base-plate D by rivets passing through the anges of said rails and through said plate, as shown in Fig. 2.
ln liig. o we have shown a modification, which com sts in bending the iianges 1 of rails A A upward and the flanges 2 of rails B B downward to overlap each other, insieid of 35 cutting oit one of the side trains, as shown in Fig. 2, and then securing the flanges 1 and 2 together hy rivets 3. This makes a very stron g structure and is the preferred form.
Tt is obvious that the iianges l Gould he de- 4o pressed and the lflanges 2 upset to overlap eaeh other reversely to the manner shown in Fig. 3, but such construction would he a mere change oi form.
'Having described our invention, what we 4.5
together by rivets 3 and t-he bottom flanges of 5o said rails secured to the base-plate D, suhstantially as specified.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands.
