To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER \V. ROB- ERTSON, of Somerville, in the county of Fay ette and State of Tennessee, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Chewing. Gum Lockets, of which the following is a specification.

. The object of my invention is to provide a locket of novel form and construction for holding with safety, cleanliness, and convenience for.use chewing-gum, confections, or medicines, and which may be carried in the pocket or otherwise attached to the person, as

ment consists, essentially, in a locket having an anti-corrosive lining, and it also consists in certain details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter particularly described, and designated in the claims.

In the aceompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective representation of my improved locket opened; Fig. 2, an enlarged section thereof closed; Fig. 3, a perspective of one of the glass linings detached, and Fig. 4 a similar representation of an inner cushion or ,pad to be placed between the lining and the metal back of the locket.

The locket-case A consists of two sections, A A hinged together at a, in any well known or preferred manner, and having a neck, a, and ring 01*, to which a guard or chain may be attached. A concavo-convex non-corrosive material, is fitted in a'bezel or' metal ring, 0, which protects its edge against chipping and prevents it from being crushed by the pressure of the locket-case sections A A when snapped together, is fitted within rim-flanges a of the casing-sections, and may be easily removed or replaced therefrom for convenience of construction, repairs, or for cleansing-the linings.

A cushion or pad lining of rubber or other elastic material, C, shaped tofit against the inner surface of the locket-case, is placed beand serves to protect the said lining B from breakage when the contents of the locketare pressed tightly between the case-sections. The gum is pressed into a wafer form between theconcave surfaces of the lining B, and the gum is permitted to be easily removed therefrom, while the smooth or glazed surface of the lining will prevent it from adhering thereto. As the lining B is made of a non-corrosive material, any of which may be employed without departing from. my invention, he saliva of the mouth or other substance held within the locket will not act upon it chemically, and a case of any preferred material may thus be used. Chewing-gum may thus be carried conveniently upon the person, and is not left around carelessly to become dirty or to fall in the hands of persons to whom it does not belong, and be used by ulcerous or diseased months, by which infection would be communicated by subsequent use to the owner. I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A locket having hinged sections, each of which is fitted with an anti-corrosive lining,

substantially as described, for the purpose specified.

2. A locket having hinged case-sections, each of which is fitted with a concave crystal removable from the case-sections, substantially as and for the purpose described.

3. The combination, in a. locket, of tire8a" hinged case-sections the concave linings, and separate rings forming rims for the protection of the edges of the linings, substantially as set forth. l

4. The combination, in a locket, of the hinged case, the concave fragile lining, and the pad-lining placed between said caseand concave lining, substantially as described. CHRISTOPHER W. ROBERTSON. Witnesses:
