HARNESS-ROSETTE ATTACHMENT.

Be it known that I, Brennan W. Jones, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Rosette Attachments; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents myimprovement applied to a bridle. Fig. 2 is a face view of the reset-te and gag-runner,showingadjacentportions of the head-stall and browhand. Fig. 3 is a rear view showing the reverse of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 illustrates a side elevation, the rosette and its attachmentremoved from the bridle; and Figs. 5 and 6 show the attachment made of wire.

My invention consists in an attachment for harnessrosettes, by means of which the rosette and the usual head and brow bands of a bridle may be secured together without sewing or riveting, and which also serves as a means for supporting or carrying the gag-runner, which latter may be made a part of or pivotedto the said attachment.

Referring again to the drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the'different views, A, is a harness-rosette'of any ordinary or usual construction, it being essential, however, that it be provided with a loop on its rear portion.

B represents my attachment, shown in the present instance with the gag-runner pivoted thereto. It consists of an oblong plate of metal, cast or wrought, or of wire, and is centrally slotted longitudinally, as at b, (shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3,) said slot being of the proper size and shape to fit over the loop or eye on the back of the rosette A.

The attachment B is provided at its upper or top end with, in the present instance, two curvedhooks, c c-one on each side of the slot which hooks engage with suitable holes in the head-strap and hold the parts securely, as will be more fully hereinafter explained. The at tachment B at its lower end is provided with an eye, d, and a gagrunner, E, is pivoted. to said eye.

Instead of the curved hooks c c, Isometimes use straight studs, and even a single stud or pin at the center of the top of the slotted plate would be reasonablysecureand efiective. Still I prefer the form shown, and yet either of the forms described are within the scope of my invention.

The gag runner I either form as shown and pivot it to an eye on the strap B, or form it as a part thereof, and in some instances it may be omitted altogether and the plate B be used simply as a means of securing together the headstrap, brow-band, and rosette of a bridle.

The mode of using my improvement is well represented in the drawings. The plate 13 is applied with its slot over the loop or eye on the back of the rosette. The loop on the end of the brow band F is then passed through the rosette loop or eye transversely, and the head strap,whieh is bifurcated, as usual, to form the customary throat and cheek straps, D and E, is inserted through the loop on the end of the brow-band and straddles the loop or eye on the rosette. The strap D is extended downward and forms the throatlatch of the bridle, and the strap E is extended to form the cheekstrap, and is secured in any suitable manner to the nose-band G.

The gag-runner, whether formed with or pivoted to the plate B, has its usual and customary functions.

My invention, either with or without the gag runner, is adapted for use with most of the resettes now on the market. It is cheaply manw factured, easily and readily applied, and is a greatimprovement over any means of attaching a rosette and the adjacent straps on the bridle with which I am acquainted.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is--- 1. As an attachment for harnessrosettesan oblong slotted plate provided with hooks or studs at its upper end, the slot adapted to re ceive the loop or eye of a rosette,and the books or studs to secure the head-strap and brow band of a bridle, substantially as set forth.

2. An attachment for harnessrosettes, consisting of a slotted plate with hooks or studs on its rear upper portion, and a gag-runner at its lowerend, substantially as set forth.

3. An attachment for harnessrosettes, constrap, brow-band, and throat and cheek straps r0 sisting of a slotted plate with hooks or studs of a bridle, substantially as set forth.
