Abstract

An eye member is adapted to define an opening and to embrace and hold a necktie. The eye member has diametrically opposite, forward and rear portions. The forward portion is formed with a radial hole. Spring means are carried by said eye member and constrict said hole. A plug pin is secured to an ornamental plaque and extends through said hole in engagement with said spring means and is adapted to extend approximately as far as to said rear portion.

6 s, .llr nalfiey FASTENER FOR NECKTIES This invention relates to a fastener for neckties, which fastener comprises. an eye member, which is open or can be opened and which is adapted to embrace the necktie or the like adjacent to a collar and for holding it together without need for a knot.

Such fasteners for neckties enable the application of a necktie with a few manipulations without need for a time-consuming and complicated formation of a knot. Besides, they should satisfy the desire of modern people for ornament. These requirements can be fulfilled only if the fastener can easily be fitted'on the necktie and can be adapted to the necktie which is being worn, to the suit, the time of the day, the nature of the party, and other conditions. The previously disclosed fasteners for neckties have not met these requirements or have met them only to a very inadequate degree. They can be fixed only with complicated and expensive clips, U-shaped spring members, special fastening means or the like, and enable an adaptation only in that different fasteners for neckties are used. The known fasteners for neckties have also the disadvantage that they are relatively expensive and that particularly the clamping means are susceptible to damage.

It is an object of the invention to eliminate these disadvantages and to provide for neckties a fastener of the kind mentioned hereinbefore which is simple, economical and reliable in function. The use of this fastener should minimize the manipulations required to apply a necktie; it should enable in a considerable degree an adaptation to the various conditions under which a necktie may be worn, and should enable entirely novel effects'particularly when worn by men.

This object is essentially accomplished according to the invention by the provision of an ornamental plaque, which is disposed on the forward side of the eye member and is provided with a plug pin, which is adapted to be plugged into a hole that is formed in the forward portion of the eyemember and constricted by spring means or the like, which pin can be pushed inwardly approximately as far as to the rear portion of the eye member. Hence, the entire fastener for neckties consists only of the more or less annular eye member and the ornamental plaque, which is provided with the plug pin that is adapted to be plugged into the eye member. These two parts are uncomplicated and can be manufactured in a simple manner and at low cost. Besides, the fastener comprising these parts can be most easily applied. When the necktie has been threaded into the eye member, the same is pushed to the correct position and is fixed to the necktie in that position in that the ornamental plaque is plugged onto the eye member. As a result, the plug pin provided on the ornamental plaque clamps the necktie in the eye member, so that they cannot slip. The hole which is formed in the wall of the eye member and through which the plug pin is inserted is constricted by spring elements, resilient projections or the likeso that the plug 'pin is retained in any position. The plug pin can be forced in to different extents so that the ornamental plaque is adjusted to the desired position and the desired firm fixation of the fastener on the necktie can be ensured. The provision of an ornamental plaque which is associated with the eye member enables the use of any of several ornamental 6 plaques with one and the same eye member so that one and the same fastener can be adapted to various conditions. Hence, the combination of the eye member and an ornamental plaque does not only provide for the desired ornamentation but also greatly facilitates the entire fastener because the need for separate clamping means is eliminated.

It will be particularly desirable if the shank and the end face of the plug pin have a surface which is provided with ribs or the like, and a bearing surface covered with felt orthe like is disposed on the inside of the eye member opposite to the hole for the plug pin. A ribbed plug pin is more securely held in the hole in the wall of the eye member than 'a smooth pin and the rough end face at which the pin cooperates with the bearing surface can more firmly hold the necktie portion which is disposed between the bearing surface and the end face. The felt covering or another soft protective layer on the bearing surface prevents damage to the necktie being clamped.

In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the invention is shown by way of example in a diagrammatic perspective view.

The fastener for neckties comprises an eye member 1, which embraces the necktie adjacent to the collar and holds the necktie together without a knot, and an ornamental plaque 3, which is adapted to be secured to the forward face 2 of the eye member 1. For this purpose, the ornamental plaque 3 is provided with a plug pin 4, which is adapted to be inserted into a hole 5 of the eye member 1. The plug pin 4 is provided on its shank and on its end face with ribs 6. The hole 5 is constricted by spring elements 7. The cooperation of the spring elements 7 and of the lateral ribs 6 on the shank 4 results in a good connection between the ornamental plaque 3 and the eye member 1. When the ornamental plug 3 has been applied, the plug pin 4 extends approximately as far as to the rear portion 8 of the eye member. This rear portion is provided on its inside surface opposite to the hole 5 with a bearing surface 9, which is covered with a soft material, such as felt. The necktie is threaded into the eye member through the slot 11 and can be firmly clamped because the plug pin 4 extends as far as to the bearing surface 9 so that the fastener cannot slip on the necktie. To reliably prevent a shifting of the necktie in the fastener, the end face of the plug pin is also ribbed. The soft covering 10 on the bearing surface 9 prevents damage to the necktie itself.

The fastener according to the invention for neckties can be handled most easily and without need for a mirror because the necktie is merely threaded into the eye member, the ornamental plaque is secured in that the plug pin is inserted into the eye member whereby the fastener is fixed to the necktie itself. The ornamental plaque itself may have any of various designs to enable a good adaptation to various occasions and a widely variable ornamentation.

What is claimed is:

l. A fastener for neckties, which comprises an eye member adapted to define an opening and to embrace and hold a necktie, said eye member having diametrically opposite, forward and rear portions, said forward portion being formed with a radial hole,

spring means carried by said eye member and constricting said hole,

an ornamental plaque, and

a plug pin which is secured to said plaque and extends through said hole in engagement with said spring means and is adapted to extend approxiwhich said eye member comprises means operable to define an opening.

4. A fastener for neckties as set forth in claim 1, in which said surface irregularities are formed by ribs.

5. A fastener for neckties as set forth in claim 1, in which said covering consists of felt.

6. A fastener for neckties as set forth in claim 1, in

which said plug pin is removably held in said hole.

Claims

1. A fastener for neckties, which comprises an eye member adapted to define an opening and to embrace and hold a necktie, said eye member having diametrically opposite, forward and rear portions, said forward portion being formed with a radial hole, spring means carried by said eye member and constricting said hole, an ornamental plaque, and a plug pin which is secured to said plaque and extends through said hole in engagement with said spring means and is adapted to extend approximately as far as to said rear portion, said plug pin hAving a peripheral surface and a free end face and being formed with surface irregularities on said peripheral surface and said free end face, and said rear portion is provided on its inside with a soft covering which is opposite to said hole.

2. A fastener for neckties as set forth in claim 1, in which said eye member defines an opening.

3. A fastener for neckties as set forth in claim 1, in which said eye member comprises means operable to define an opening.

6. A fastener for neckties as set forth in claim 1, in which said plug pin is removably held in said hole.
