V SHEET 2 0F 3 TIE ARRANGEMENTS AND TIE-HOLDING DEVICE THEREFOR BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
This invention relates generally to mens dress wear and more particularly to new and improved ties, tie arrangements, and tie-holding devices.
Ties are worn generally to complement the suit worn by a man. The choice of tie pattern is generally governed by the outer garments that the male has on for that particular day or function. A single tie is worn and a change may be made only by substituting a completely different tie. Thus, the male is limited as to the change of accessories and the like that could be made without complete removal to a place where access to a different tie may be made.
SUMMARY oF THE INVENTION:
It is the principal object of the present invention to provide new and improved tie arrangements.
Another object is to provide new tie-holding devices usable with the ties and arrangements thereof according to the invention.
In accordance with the invention a plurality of ties of different patterns made of a light material are assembled into a single tie arrangement and worn together. Each individual tie may be selectively removed from the group or assembly of ties and the dress effect changed. The individual ties are made generally shorter than conventional ties and are held in tie-holding devices or collar devices removably for easily changing dress.

FIG. 10 is a front elevation view of a tie arrangement having a type of tie illustrated in FIG. 9 in conjunction with a tie-holding device;
FIG. 11 is a cross-section view taken along section line 11-11 of FIG. 10; and
.2 FIG. 12 is a cross, section view taken along section line 12-712 of FIG. 10..
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTSz' In accordance with the invention, a plurality of ties 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 are made shorter than the conventional ties as illustrated in FIG. 1. These ties may be made of silk or any thin suitable material; Recently plastics have been used for making thin ties with different patterns thereon. The ties have a short length used for tying a knot 9b and all of the'ties are jointly disposed parallel and superposed in anarrangement as illustrated in FIG. 2. A collar device 17 is provided with two wings 17a, 17b joined together with a joining piece defining a space between the two wings in which a projection 17d is disposed extending upwardly in the space between the wings for suspending the tie arfangement therefrom as illustrated in FIGS. 2and 3. The projection extends up into the knot 9b.
The tie-holding device wings are disposed underneath corresponding wings 20a, 20b of a shirt collar shown in broken lines in FIG. 1 and these device wings can function as stays underneath the "collar or stiffners that tend to support the collar and give-it shape. The ties drape downwardly and may be worn without a tie clip or bar so that when the wearer sits the ties will be spread out or flare and make'a handsome display of colors.
The uppermost tie 9 may be made of a clear plastic to overlie the others to protect them. However, this need not be the case since each of the ties can have any desired pattern. In order to change the dress of the tie arrangement the order of the tie arrangement can be reversed or changed in any desired way. The clear plastic tie can be eliminated and any tie desired can be made the uppermost tie. Furthermore, shifting the order of the ties in the arrangement can provide a decorative combination that when flared to a fan-shaped arrangement when the wearer sits will be different from a prior order of the arrangement.
A second embodiment of tie-configuration and tieholder are illustrated in FIGS. 4-8. In this instance, the ties, for example a clear tie 24, are made with the configuration illustrated in FIG. 4 having an inverted frustro-conical length 24a having tapered edges 24b-24c diverging away from the main body of the tie. In this instance, a plurality of ties 24-28 with this configuration are assembled as a group overlying one another and made of thin material as before described with the first set or group of ties. The clear plastic tie 24 overlies the others. The frusto-conical ends of the superposed ties are received in a tie-holding device 30 having a pair of wings of 31, 32 having a flexible clip 34 of flexible plastic material integral with the tie-holder wings and having a flexible hinge 35. The wings define notches 37, 38 with a connecting piece 39 which has the hinge 35 integral with it and the clip 34 and has a projection 39a to provide surfaces on which a plurality of flexible snaps or tabs 40, 41, 42, 43 engage when the wings are loW- ered from the position in FIG. 5 into the position illustrated in FIG. 8 in which the clip is closed and the ties are releasably clamped therein.
The clip 34 is made of a clear plastic material and is configured in a configuration complementary to the tapered portion 240 of the ties which are received within the clip in the position in FIG. 5 and then clamped as 3 shown in FIG. 6-8. The wings 31, 32 are flexed downwardly after positioning the ties in the clip 34 and the clip and wings form a resilient clamp suspending the ties in the position illustrated in FIG. 8.
The wings of the tie-holding device 30 are inserted under the wings 45, 46 of the shirt collar and function as supports or stays underneath the collar the same as the embodiment heretofore described. In this tie arrangement the plastic cover tie, which functions as a protective cover here and in the first-described group, may be left off. It can be seen that the uppermost tie can be readily replaced by another and a change of tie can be made very easily and conveniently.
In a third configuration of a cover tie 50 as illustrated in FIG. 9 has a short length 500 terminating in a tapered end 50b. This tie configuration is similar to a combination of the configurations of the ties in FIGS. 1 and 4. In this instance, a clip or sheath 51 made of a clear flexible plastic material is provided and has openings 53, 54 in which hooks 55, 56 are received for holding an assembly of ties 56-59 in a superposed relationship. A tie-holding device 65 has wings 65a, 65b supporting a clip 67 which is U-shaped in cross section as illustrated in FIG. 12. The clip is made of flexible plastie and can be separated at the lower end for inserting the upper tip 50b of each of the individual ties thereinto. The clip is configured in the downwardly tapered configuration so the tie tips 50b will not fall out.
The tie-holding device 65 has its wings inserted under collar wings 67, 68 or a collar and function to enhance the beauty thereof by acting as stays under the collar as described with respect to the other embodiments.
