ROOF-PAINT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 387,240, dated August 7,1888.
Application filed May 2, 1888. Serial No. 272,603,
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, GERMAN J. MATsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bufialo, in the county of Berrien and State of Michigan, have discovered a new and useful Improvement in Roof-Paints; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of my discovery, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My improvement relates to roof-paints, the object being to make a cheap, durable paint that has much more body than those heretofore used, and one that never cracks or peels.
I first form a liquid shellac by using three and one-half pounds common gum-shellac, one gallon water, one andone-half ounce potash, put together and boiled as glue is melted. Take one gallon of this prepared shellac,four gallons linseed-oil, ten ounces balsam of fir, four pounds White-lead to fifteen pounds of (No specimens.)
Hour of emery, or enough to thicken to the consistency of thick paint. Stir Well together and use with a brush.
For colors I use red, green, or any desired color in the common Way.
I claim- Aliquid slate-paint compounded of common gum-shellac, water, and potash, in the quantities and manner described, in combination with linseed-oil, balsam of fir, white lead, and flour of emery, in quantities named, substantially as shown, and for the purpose set forth.
