CHARLES WsELY, Vor WEST NEW Yoan, NEW JERSEY.,
CEMENT wAs'H-Tue. a
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.' 384.814dated'une Application filed March 17, .1888. Serial No. 267,472. (No mfdcl.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that l, CHARLES W'ESELY, 0f West New York, in the county of Hudson and State. of New Jersey, have invented certain ments 1in-Cement Wash-Tubs, of which t-he'f llowing is a speci- This invention relates to( certain imp-rovements in the manufacture of wash-tubsmade from cement, whereby the manufacture'bf'the. same is simplified and renderedcheaper.; and. first, in the'combination,
of the tub, said wastepipe having-an enlarged head provided with openings 'and vllanges set inthe bottom lof the tub flush withthe' bottom surface of the same, and tneonterfend of-the' pipe being provided with means for attaching' the drain-pipe. y. i
The invention consists, secondly, of the cornbination, with, thepartition-wallof the 'washtub provided with overilowfop'enings, of a vertical channel in said Wall, a wastepipe having an enlarged head, and openings in said the overflow as well as the'contcnts of the sections of the wash-tub.
- The invention` consists, further, in the construction of the `enlarged 4head for the wastebe described more fully hereinafter, pointedf out in the claims.A
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my i mproved cement wash-tub. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same on line x w, Fig.
and finally' broknaway'. Figs. 3 and 4 area vertical longitudinal section and a vertical transverse section, drawn on a larger scale, ofthe enlarged head ofthe waste-pipefwhich is set into the bottom of the tub and arranged so asto communicate .with both sections of the same and with the overflow-channel arranged in the par titi'on; andFig. 5 is a top view of the enlarged Similar letters of reference indicate corre spondingparts. i
l and registers therewith,l ings d d, provided with` sides, `which-form seats for receiving the-plugs Referring to the drawings, A-represents a. Wash-tub which is made of cement and pro vided with protecting zinc plates at its edges, according to the patent heretofore granted to me, No. 327,209,` dated September 29, 1885.
The wash-tub Aris divided--bya partition, A', Y into two sections, the V,partition being provided with the usual overflow-openings, a, one at each side, and strainers a'in the same, and with a vertical ohannehb, which connects the vover- 6o flow-openings a with ithe enlarged head B of the waste'pipe C. -Theichannel bisformed by' `mea`ns`of a core, whichiis inserted in the middie ofl the partition whgencasting the body of the wash-tub in cement.V The enlarged head Bof the waste-pipe C isf;` made of two parts--a top part, B', and a'bottlim part, 132.-' The top @artfBQ is provided with acentral opening,l
b', that corresponds in size with the channel b Bauges d' di' at both by which the wash-tub is. closed.- The bottom part, B, of the head; B is enlarged at the upper part-and provided with' a. seat for the top 75 plate, B', and contractecl at the lower part to the diameter of the waste-pipe G. The topf plate, B', is provided at; both sides intermediately between the waste-lopenings d d with'recessed side ears, e e, wh' ich serve to receive 80 v, theheads of the screw-bolts ff, the lower ends of which engage ressd side ears ffiof a sleeve or collar, C', thatraerves to establlshthe vrigid connection betweeri-thelower end of the B", andstlle waste-pipe C, as
bottom part, shown in Figs. 2 and 4. 'i
In casting the wash-tub the strainers a', as well as the enlarged'heacl B of the "iivastelpipe C, are' placed in their'pll'oper position in the mold, the screws being aliso placed in positiongo intheears of' the-top plfate. The cement is then-cast around thev strlainers and enlargedv headso as to be flush withthe edges of the plug-seats, which are kepit closed .by wooden yplugs during the casting oiperation.- The chan` o5 nelb in the partition of tine tub lis formed by v inserting a-woodcn core, ,"which connects the strainerswith the central ,opening ofthe head Band removing thezcore when the' cement hasset suicentlyto 'j retatin its shape, battus roo Iand with waste-open- 7o 2` salientnot hard enough to resist the withdrawing of the core. The ceinent is also cast around the screw-bolts j' f, so that the latter are rigidly held in position and project below the bott'm' of ythe tub, as shown in Fig.,2, so as to Abe ready to receive the connecting sleeve or co1- lar C and the screw-,nuts ff in attaching the` waste-pipe.
The washtnb has the advantagegtiattheenlarged head of tlie Wastejpipe selfes'for draining both sections of the partitioned wash-tub,
as well as for theoverovcfv of the same, where by tlie'manufactnre of cement wash-tubs is considerably simplified and facilitated.y
Another advantage of my improved wash tubis that the work of the plu mbervis rendered much cheaper,A inasmuch as only one waste-V' pipe for both wash-tubs and the overow is ref qnired, and as thevconnection with the' wastepipe'is .qnickl y and easily establishedby first detaching the sleeve on collar by unscrewing the n'utsZ applying the widened end of the Awaste-pipe to the lower contracted end of the headl B, placing the collar in position around the yend of the Waste-pipe, and applying the screw-nuts tightly to the lower ends of the embedded screw-boltsland the head B, as shown Ain Figs. and 4.
.Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to se cure by Letters Patentl' 1i. The combination", with a cement wash-tnb having a partition, 011: a channel having overv- How-openings and strainers inthe partition,
and an enlarged head for the waste-pipe set into the .bottom of the same, and provided with a drain-opening and a plug-seat at each `side of the partition, and with an intermediate 'openingz' communicating with -the overflowchannel'fnt'o the partition, substantially asset s forth.
. ,1,25 Alhead for the waste-pipes of wash-tubs,
'composed of a top plate having drain-open-1 ings and plug-seats, an overflow-opening between stid plug-seats, and a bottom part enlarged Aatlthe upper and contracted atthe lower end, substantially as set forth,`
3. The combination of theenlargednhead for the waste-pipe of a' cement washtub, said my invention I havevsigned my naine inpresencc of two subscribing witnesses.
