FRIEDRICH KELLER, OF MILNAUKEE, IVISGONSIN.
INSIDE BLlND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 373,665, dated November 22, 1837,
Application filed March 2S, 1887. Serial K052326135.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH KELLER, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee, and in the State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inside Blinds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to inside blinds, being more particularly designed as an improvement on a similar invention for which Letters Patent No. 317,797, were granted to me May 12, 1885; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts to he hereinafter described with reference to the accompanying drawings, and subsequent] y claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 represents a partial horizontal crossseetion of a sash-frame, blind-box, and blind; Fig. 2, a vertical transverse section of the same; Fig. 3, a. detail sectional view showing the upper portion of a blind-section, its box, and upper guide-rail; and Fig. 4a detail side elevation of the upper portion of a blindsection.
In practice it has been found that the blindsections described in my former patent would occasionally bind in their upper guide-strips, and to overcome this difficulty is the objectof my present invention.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A A represent the inner and outer hinge -joined panels that compose a section of an inside blind having a lateral sliding movement. To the top of the panel A, I secure, by screws a or other suitable means, a strip, B, that is preferably of a length approximately equal to double the width of said panel, or, in other words, the greatest width of the entire blindsection, as best illustrated by Fig. 4. To the respective ends of strip B and flush with its outer side I secure plates 0, that have mounted thereon anti-friction rollers D, the latter being arranged to run on a guide-rail, E, secured to the inner side of a strip, F, the latter hav ing its ends inserted in the blind-box G on each side of the window.
The guide-rail E and strip F are preferably made in two sections, the opposingends'of the sections composing said strip being lap-j oined, as shown at c, and centrally secured to the top (No model.)
of the window-casing by means of a screw, cl, that passes diagonally through the lap-joint, as best illustrated in Fig. 3. In order to better hold the strip F in position I mayalso employ a vertical screw, 6, (shown in Fig. 2) on each side the lap-joint.
By having the strip F made in two sections the blinds can be more conveniently placed in position or taken out for repairs.
In order to limit the outward movement of the blindsections a stop, H, is arranged on the window-sill I to come in thepath of the strip J, that extends out at right angles from the rear edge of the panel A belonging to each blind section, and each of the strips B is cut away at its upper outer corner to engage a stop, K, secured to the top of the window-casing upon its under side in the path of said strips.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a window-blind structure, the combination, with laterally "sliding blind sections, each comprising two or more hinge-joined panels, of a transverse strip secured to the upper edge of the inner panel of each section and having a length approximately equal to the greatest width of said section, anti-friction rollers mounted on the strips, and a guide-rail secured to the window-casing, substantially as set forth.
2. In a window-blind structure, the combination, with laterally sliding blindsections, each comprising two or more hinge joined panels, of a transverse strip secured to the upper edge of the inner panel in each section and having a length approximately equal to the greatest width of said section, anti-friction rollers mounted on the strip, a cross-strip con1- posed of two lap-joined sections detachably connected to the windowrasing, and a sectional guide rail secured to the latter strip, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRICH KELLER.
