rIlllI/lIIIIIIIIIIIllllIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIII I IIIIIIIIII!II"IIIIIIIlIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII/lflllI 00'0" Ill!lllllllll'llllllllIIlIIIIIIII/IIIIII APPARATUS FOR ELECTROSLAG REMELTING OF METALS The present invention relates to electrometallurgy and, more particularly, the invention relates to apparatus for electroslag remelting of metals.
Known in the art is an apparatus for electroslag remelting of metals comprising a downwardly widening mould rigidly secured on a cooled metal pan having an aperture for a dummy bar and provided with a power source for melting down the electrodes.
This apparatus is designed for production of highquality metals, substantially in the form of large ingots having a weight higher than tons. Such an apparatus, however,has a significant disadvantage in order to remove the ingot, the mould is made split along a vertical plane, therefore, the apparatus must be equipped with a complicated mechanism for splitting the mould which considerably complicates the construction of the apparatus as a whole.
An object of the presentinvention is to eliminate the above-mentioned disadvantage.
The specific object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for electroslag remelting of metals which is simple in construction and reliable in operation and allows the deposited ingot to be removed from the mould without splitting this mould.
This object is attained owing to the fact that the proposed apparatus for electroslag remelting, as distinguished from the above-said apparatus, is provided with a device for lifting the ingot to remove it from the mould, the actuating member of the device passing through the aperture in the pan in the process of lifting the ingot.
The device for lifting the ingot is made in the form of a'hydraulic drive whose pusher rod passes through the aperture in the pan during the lift of the ingot.
It is also expedient that the upper portion of the actuating member, e.g., pusher rod, contacting the bottom of the deposited ingot has shape and dimensions corresponding to those of the aperture in the pan, is provided with a cooling system and constitutes a movable component of this pan.
The apparatus made according to the present invention makes it possible to successively solve the problem in view and to use one-piece mould in this apparatus, in which case the construction thereof is considerably simplified.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more readily apparent and the invention will be better understood from a consideration of the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 illustrates theapparatus according to the invention in which the aperture in the pan for the pusher rod is also used for bottom-gate pouring of slag;
FIG. 2 illustrates the similar apparatus in which the upper portion of the actuating mechanism is a movable sectional component of the pan. 5
The apparatus shown in FIG. 1 comprises a cooled one-piece mould 1 widening upwardly and secured on a plate and for pressing it against the pan 2, which mechanism 9 is mounted on a carriage l0 capable of moving along rails 1 l by means of a drive (not shown). The pan has an upwardly widening central aperture 12 and is mounted on legs 13. Fixed to the pan 2 is the supporting structure 6. The mould l in its upper portion is provided with a copper ring 15 mounted on an insulator l4 and connected with a current conducting lead of the power source 4. A consumable electrode 18 is secured on the copper ring 15 through a shoulder 17. The second current conducting lead 19 of the power source 4 is connectedto the mould l which has a reliable electric contact with the pan 2. The shoulder 17 of the electrode 18 has notches 20 through which a solid slag is poured into the gap between the electrode 18 and the wall of the mould 1. The ingot lifting mechanism 3 is mounted under the pan 2 and consists of a hydraulic drive, the pusher rod 21 of which is disposed against the aperture 12 of the pan 2, in which case the vertical axis of the pusher rod 21 coincides with the vertical axis of the mould l.
The apparatus shown in FIG. 1 operates as follows.
The apparatus is fed with a voltage from the power source 4 and a slag preliminarily melted in any aggregate is poured into the receiving funnel 5. After appearance of an electric current in the circuit of the consumable electrode 18, the carriage 10 is moved by the drive together with the movable plate 7 to the receiving I movable plate is lowered by the mechanism 9, the carcooled metal pan 2, a device 3 for lifting an ingot, a
riage 10 is wheeled out together with the plate 7 and the solidified slag is removed. The hydraulic drive is operated, the pusher rod thereof bears upon the bottom of the deposited ingot and lifts it together with the slag cap to a height sufficient for catching the ingot by the shop crane and for transferring this ingot to a required location. The pusher rod 21 is lowered, the working chamber of the mould l is cleaned and the carriage 10 with the plate 7 is wheeled into the space under the pan 2, thereafter, the plate 7 is pressed against the pan 2.
Thus, the apparatus is ready to a new melting.
In the apparatus shown in FIG. 2, in contrast to that shown in FIG. 1, the pusher rod 21 of the hydraulic drive is cooled in its upper portion 22. This upper portion 22 of the pusher rod 21 has dimensions and a shape corresponding to those of the aperture 12 in the pan 2, is tightly introduced into this upwardly widening upper portion 22 lifts the deposited ingot to a height sufi'icient for removing it from the mould.
It should be noted that the above described device for lifting the ingot in both versions of the apparatus said mold; lifting means below said mold for raising the ingot to facilitate removal thereof from said mold, said lifting means including an actuating member extending upwardly through the aperture in said pan and contact the bottom of said ingot during raising of the latter, said actuating member having an upper end portion shaped and dimensioned to correspond with the configuration of the aperture insaid pan, and said upper end portion being cooled and adapted to constitute a movable apertture opening or closing portion of said pan.
