Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFI E.
JOHN A. PRICE, OF SORANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
STOVE OR RANG E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 372,042, dated October 25, 1887.
Application filed July 6, 1886. Renewed June 29, 1887. Serial No. 242,919.
new and useful Improvements in Stoves or Ranges; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this re specification, and to the figures and letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates particularly to that class of stoves or ranges which employ an elevated-hot closet or oven; and it consists in providing such closet or oven with sliding doors which are so guided and supported by rollers as to enable them to be opened and closed with facility and held in a substantially horizontal position when opened, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a closed oven having my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a front view ot' the same with the doors slid open; Fig. 3,
a sectional view of the oven.
Similar letters of reference in the several figures indicate the same parts.
The letter A represents the oven, and B B the sliding doors arranged at the front thereof.
' The lower edge of each of the doors rests in a groove or channel, 0, in the base-plate of the closet, while its upper edge is confined between the frame of the closet and a removable ornamental face-plate, D, as shown in 5 Fig. 3.
Each door is provided near its inner edge, on the inside and near the bottom thereof, with an anti friction roller, E, which is adapted to rest upon the base-plate, as shown 0 in Fig. 3, while the frame of the closet has mounted upon it, near each of its ends, another anti-friction roller, F. ers at all times support the weight of the door and enable the latter to be slid back- 5 ward and forward with great facility and ease, and they are so arranged with respect to each other and to the door as to stand opposite each other when the door is pulled out to its full extent and to maintain the door in a 5o horizontal position without sagging, as shown in Fig. 2.
These two roll-.
No model.)
Each dooris provided on the outside, nearits lower edge, with a ledge, G, upon which dishes or other articles may be placed for the purpose of being kept warm, said ledge being slotted, as shown in Fig. 1, so as to form a towel-rack, H.
\Vhile I prefer the form of closet and doors shown, I do not intend, of course, to limit myself to it, as it may be varied to conform to the taste of the pattern-maker.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The combination, with the closet, of the sliding doors, guided and supported-substaa tially as described, and having formed upon them the slotted ledges, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination, with the closet having the groove or channel in its base-plate, the sliding doors having their lower edges in serted in and guided by said base groove or channel, and the friction rollers mounted thereon and resting upon the base-plate, of a the removable face-plate between which and the closet-frame the upper edges of the doors are confined and guided, substantially as described.
3. The combination, with the closet having the groove or channel in its base-plate, of the sliding doors bearing frictionrollers which rest on the base-plate, the removable face plate, and the friction rollers mounted upon the front of the closet and assisting to guide the upper portion of the doors, substantially as described.'
4. The combination, with the closet having a groove or channel in its base, of the sliding doors, the removable face-plate, and the friction-rollers mounted upon the doors near the inner edges of the latter, and the other frictionrollers mounted on the closet-frame near the ends thereof, whereby, when the doors are slid outward, the upper and lower rollers will stand substantially opposite each other and hold the doors in horizontal position, substantial l y as described.
