A principal object of the present invention is to provide a support mountable upon a sewing machine head and which includes means for supporting of spools of threads thereupon.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a support which accordingly thus conveniently can support a plurality of different color and type'of spools of threads so that each one of them is handy for interchangeable use to a sewing machine operator.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a sewing machine multiple thread dispenser which can be readily and quickly mounted upon a spindle of a sewing machine head, and which can be quickly and easily removed therefrom when not needed.
. Yet a further object of the present invention is to provide a sewing machine multiple thread dispenser which does not in any way interfere with the normal operation of a sewing machine.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a sewing machine multiple thread dispenser which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects eill be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side elevation view of the components of the present invention shown partly in cross section and located in operative position over a sewing machine head,
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of a cover of the device viewed in direction 2-2 of FIG. 1, and
FIG. 3 is a top view of the spool platform as viewed in direction 3-3 of FIG. 1.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a sewing machine multiple thread dispenser according to the present invention wherein there is a platform unit 11 normally positioned over a spacer 12, the platform unit 11 being normally enclosed by a removable cover 13.
Referring now to the platform unit 11 in further detail, the same includes a circular disc 14 made of any stiff material such as metal, plastic or the like which is provided with a central opening 15 therethrough for purpose of receiving a sewing machine spindle 16 that forms a component of a sewing machine head 17 and which extends upwardly therefrom for normally supporting a spool of thread.
Upon the upper side 17 of the disc 14, there are a plurality of six individual posts 18 each one of which is adaptable for supporting an individual spool of thread of different color or material. I
The posts 18 are arranged in two concentric circles around the central opening 15, the inner circle of posts 18 being each of approximately two and one quarter inches in height whereas the outer circle of posts 18 are each of three quarter of an inch in height.
The inner circle of posts are each of one quarter inch in diameter whereas the outer circle of posts 18 are of three-sixteenths of an inch in diameter.
All of the posts are rigidly fixed at their lower ends to the disc 14 for a unitary construction.
The spacer 12 comprises a cylindrical configurated member of approximately 1 inch in length and threequarter of an inch in diameter, the spacer having a longitudinally extending central opening 19 therethrough and through which the sewing machine head spindle 16 extends, as shown in FIG. 1.
The spacer may be made of any desirable material such as metal or plastic, and it is to be understood that the spacer may comprise either a separate member from the platform unit 11 or the same maybe integrally secured thereto so as to form a unitary construction.-
7 The cover 13 comprises a dome member made preferably of clear plastic material so as to permit view therethrough, the cover including a cylindrical lower portion 20 of relatively larger diameter and a cylindrical upper portion 21 of relatively narrower diameter.
The lower portion is of seven and one quarter inches in diameter and the upper portion is of four and three quarter inches in diameter. V
The lower portion is of one and one quarter inches in height and the upper portion 'is of one and one half inches in height. The cover accordingly includes a cylindrical lower side wall 22 and a cylindrical upper wall 23 which are connected together by means of a shoulder 24 there between.
The upper end of the upper cylindrical wall 23 is surmounted by means of a circular top wall 25 thus form-' ing adome which is open at its lower end so that the cover may be placed over the platform unit as is indicated by means of the arrow 26.
It is to be noted that the platform 'unit further includes a plurality of notches orslots 27 upon the periphery 28 thereof, each one of the notches or slots 27. extending radially inwardly in an end terminates in an enlarged circular opening '29.
The notches or slots serve as guide means for thread being fed from spools seated upon the posts 18 and from which the thread is fed to'the sewing machine head mechanism in a conventional manner.
It is .now evident that the present invention provides a means whereby several different spools of threads may be conveniently and handily mounted upon a sewing machine head so that a sewing machine operator can-selectively quickly and easily select anyone of the threads for sewing machine use. Thus different colors of threads are handy as well as different thicknesses of threads as well as different thread materials such as cotton or nylon.
What I now claim is:
1. In a sewing machine multiple thread dispenser, the combination of a platform unit, a spacer located below said platform unit, and a cylindrical cover being fitted over said platform unit for enclosing the same, said spacer comprising a cylindrical configurated member having a central opening being adaptable for receiving therethrough'a spindle normally provided upon a conventional sewing machine head and which is usually used for supporting a single spool of thread, said platform unit including a circular disc having a central opening therethrough adaptable for receiving a sewing machine head spindle therethrough, and said disc being provided with a plurality of upwardly extending thread spool posts fixedly mounted thereupon, said spool posts being arranged in two concentric circles around said central opening, each one of said posts being adaptable for supporting an individual spool of thread, and said spool posts in an outer of said circles being relatively short, while said posts in an inner of said circles aresaid cover comprises a dome that is open at its lower end, said dome being made of clear plasticmaterial and including a cylindrical lower portion and a cylindrical upper portion smaller than and centered on said lower portion, said cylindrical portion having a flat shoulder interconnecting the same together to enclose said posts and said disc.

Claims (2)

1. In a sewing machine multiple thread dispenser, the combination of a platform unit, a spacer located below said platform unit, and a cylindrical cover being fitted over said platform unit for enclosing the same, said spacer comprising a cylindrical configurated member having a central opening being adaptable for receiving therethrough a spindle normally provided upon a conventional sewing machine head and which is usually used for supporting a single spool of thread, said platform unit including a circular disc having a central opening therethrough adaptable for receiving a sewing machine head spindle therethrough, and said disc being provided with a plurality of upwardly extending thread spool posts fixedly mounted thereupon, said spool posts being arranged in two concentric circles around said central opening, each one of said posts being adaptable for supporting an individual spool of thread, and said spool posts in an outer of said circles being relatively short, while said posts in an inner of said circles are relatively longer than the spool posts in the outer concentric circle, and a peripheral edge of said platform disc having a series of slots around the circumference thereof, inner ends of the slots terminating in an enlarged circular opening.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said cover comprises a dome that is open at its lower end, said dome being made of clear plastic material and including a cylindrical lower portion and a cylindrical upPer portion smaller than and centered on said lower portion, said cylindrical portion having a flat shoulder interconnecting the same together to enclose said posts and said disc.
