3 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures SHEET 1 OF 2 PATENTEU IAR26 I974 The present invention relates to apparatus for controlling the reciprocating thread-guide bar of a thread or yarn windup device of the type utilizing an engagement member or cam follower positioned in the curved groove of a rotatable drum for driving the thread-guide bar, such as described in copending application of Bernhard Melz, Ser. No. 221,972 filed January 3 l 1972 and entitled THREAD WINDUP APPARATUS AND PROCESS.
In such devices, as a rule, a roller running in the guide groove of' the drum or a sliding member serve as the cam follower and drive element of the thread-guide bar.
A particular difficulty in known devices lies in the fact that the constant speed of the thread-guide, required in the interest of achieving a uniform winding configuration during direction reversal, should be maintained. This requires that direction reversal be effected in the shortest possible time, thus, in turn, requiring sufficient acceleration of the thread-guide bar at the reversal points. The forces occurring during rapid reversal cause relatively high wear of the groove drum and cam follower, and also limit the available stroke frequencies.
The present invention is intended to obviate the foregoing disadvantages of known devices; and its particular purpose is the creation of a device for displacing a thread-guide bar which, while causing less wear, particularly during stroke reversal, permits essential increase of stroke frequency.
Thus, according to the present invention, this problem is resolved by forming the cam follower of at least two guide elements arranged on a connecting rod and positioned in the groove, and by connecting the threadguide bar approximately in the middle of the connecting rod by means of an articulation such as a pivot pin.
By the arrangement of at least two follower elements, a distribution of the forces occurs on the rims or cam surfaces of the guide groove, resulting in less wear and making possible an increase of the stroke frequencies.
It is particularly advantageous to use the invention in combination with a device in which at least one elastically deformable reflector element for complete or partial reception and reversal of kinetic energy of the moving total mass is provided at the apices of oscillation of the thread-guide bar between a stop fixed on the frame of the thread windup device and a holder provided on the thread-guide bar.
There has thus been outlined rather broadly the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject of the claims appended hereto. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception upon which this disclosure is based may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures for carrying out the several purposes of the invention. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regarded as including such equivalent construction as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention.
A specific embodiment of the invention has been chosen for purposes of illustration and description, and is shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the specification wherein:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view, partly in section, illustrating a device according to the present invention; and
FIGS. 2 and 3 are'schematic representations of the course of movement of the guide elements during stroke reversal.
Referring now to the drawings and especially to FIG. 1 thereof, there is shown a thread-guide bar 1 of a yarn windup device which is connected? to connecting rod 5, at approximately the center thereof, by a pivot pin 6. Each end of the rod 5 carries an axle 5a on which rollers 2 are mounted. These rollers 2 are positioned in the groove 3 of a drum 4 which can be rotated about its axis 4a by suitable means (not shown). As can be seen, the force transferred to the thread-guide bar 1 from the groove 3 of the drum 4 is uniformly distributed to the two rollers 2 so that only a fraction of the total surface pressure acting on the groove rims is applied by each roller.
The pin 6 is also supported at its ends in a block or holder 7 formed with two through bores extending parallel to the axis 4a of the drum for reception of rods 9 which serve to guide the reciprocal movement of the block as the drum rotates and causes the rollers to follow the path of the groove 3. The: block 7 is equipped with resilient deflector elements and 7b which, at the extremes of the reciprocal excursions, impinge on associated stop elements 8a and 8b supported on the ends of rods 9 and against walls of a frame 10. By these means, a partial absorption and reversal of the kinetic energy of the reciprocating parts is effected, thus further relieving the loads on the groove rims and permitting a higher stroke frequency.
FIG. 2 illustrates the position of the rollers 2 in the groove 3 adjacent an apex of the groove path and the relative position of the guide bar 1; and FIG. 3 illustrates the relative position of those parts as the thread guide bar crosses the apex at the end of an excursion.
I believe that the construction and operation of my novel thread winding control apparatus will now be understood, and that its advantages will be apparent to those persons skilled in the art.
I claim:
1. In a yarn windup device, the combination of a thread-guide bar (1) having thread guides thereon, means for producing reciprocating movement of said thread-guide bar comprising follower means and a drum formed with a groove in its outer surface for driving the thread-guide bar, said follower means including at least two guide elements (2), a connecting rod (5), means mounting said guide elements in spaced apart relationship along said connecting rod (5), said guide elements being positioned in the groove (3) to follow the path of the walls thereof, means (6) pivotally connecting the guide bar with the connecting rod at a point mid-way between said guide element mounting means, means guiding the movement of the thread-guide bar in a reciprocating path upon rotation of the drum comprising a block (7) connected to the means (6) and guide means (9) cooperating with the block to guide same in a reciprocating path, stops (8a, 8b) provided at the ends of the excursion of the reciprocating path of the block, and deflection elements (7a, 7b) provided on the block to impinge on the stops partially to absorb 3. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the guide elements are sliding pieces positioned in the grooves (3).
Claims (3)
1. In a yarn windup device, the combination of a thread-guide bar (1) having thread guides thereon, means for producing reciprocating movement of said thread-guide bar comprising follower means and a drum formed with a groove in its outer surface for driving the thread-guide bar, said follower means including at least two guide elements (2), a connecting rod (5), means mounting said guide elements in spaced apart relationship along said connecting rod (5), said guide elements being positioned in the groove (3) to follow the path of the walls thereof, means (6) pivotally connecting the guide bar with the connecting rod at a point mid-way between said guide element mounting means, means guiding the movement of the thread-guide bar in a reciprocating path upon rotation of the drum comprising a block (7) connected to the means (6) and guide means (9) cooperating with the block to guide same in a reciprocating path, stops (8a, 8b) provided at the ends of the excursion of the reciprocating path of the block, and deflection elements (7a, 7b) provided on the block to impinge on the stops partially to absorb and reverse the direction of the kinetic energy of the reciprocating parts.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that the guide elements (2) are rollers positioned in the guide groove (3).
3. Apparatus according to claim 1, chAracterized in that the guide elements are sliding pieces positioned in the grooves (3).
