Another object of this invention is to provide a boat guide of the type described which will hold the tail and stop light out of the water so as to prevent corroding and cause-'the-bulbs to last longer.
Still-another object of this invention is to provide a boat guide of the type described which will have a mounting channel and a mounting bar for attachment to the trailer by suitable fasteners and the pipe portion extending upwards, will include a bracket mounted rubber wheel for protecting the side of the boat hull from injury. 1 1 v A further object of this invention is to provide a guide device of the type described which will have the upper pipe portion pivotable' and the upperextremity of the main pipe member will include a locking handle for preventing the rotation of the upper pipe member.
Other objects of this invention are to provide a boat guide which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy tome and efficientin operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
' FIG. 1 is asideview of the. present invention shown in elevation and partly broken away;
FIG. 2is a view taken along the line 2--2 of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 3 is a view taken along the line 33 of FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a boat guide is shown to include a channel member 11 to which is secured an angle bracket 12 by means of a pair of bolt fasteners 13. A plurality of spaced apart openings 14 through channel 11 provide a means for receiving bolt fasteners in any desired positionso as to adapt the channel 1 1 to trailers of various sizes. A quadrant 15 is welded to one end of channel 1 1 at the lower edges of its spaced apart plates 16. A plate 17 is.welded between the side plates 16 and a plate 18 is welded also to'the opposite edges of the side plates 16. A mounting bar 19 of L-shaped configuration is provided with a plurality of spaced apart openings 19' for receiving suitable bolt fasteners for mounting boat guide 10 to a trailer. The mounting bar 19 is secured to plate 18 of quadrant 15 by means of a pair of bolt fasteners 20 (one of which is shown). A pipe member 21 is externally'threaded at one end and is pivotably carried within quadrant 15 by means of a bolt fastener 22 and a nut fastener 23. A loop member 24 is fixedly secured by .welding or other the bolt fastener 25 in any one of the oppositely opposed openings 26 through the side plates 16.
A wheel bracket 28 is welded to the outer periphery of pipe 21 near its upper extremity, and serves to mount a rubber wheel 29 which is secured to bracket 28 by means of a bolt fastener 30 carrying nut fastener 31. Wheel 29 serves to'prevent injury to the sides of the boat hull. An elbow member 32 is threaded onto the externally threaded end of pipe 21 and is welded at its opposite end to the horizontal pipe 33. At the opposite end of pipe 33 a U-shaped bracket 34 is secured to pipe 33 by means of bolt fastener 35 which receives fastener 36 threadably. An extension 37 of bracket 34 provides a means for mounting the license plate 38 which extends below the tail andstop light 39 which is secured fixedly in a suitable manner (not shown) to bracket 34.
The wires-40 of tail and stop light 39 extend through pipe 33, pipe 21, and beneath the mounting channel 11.
A locking handle 41 is held to pipe 21 by means of an extending bolt 42, the elongated portion having spring means 43 for urging the opposite end against the serrated flange 44 of elbow 32. The locking handle 41 when pressed downwards against the pressure of spring 43 enables the flange 44 to be free so that the user may rotate the horizontal pipe 33 away from the boat so as to facilitate easy launching or loading thereof.
In use, guide 10 is used in pairs one each being secured by means of the mounting bars 19 and the channels 11 to the sides of the trailer carrying the boat.
