JAMES W.- MAROY,-OF CINCINNATI, OHIG,
SEAT CCRNER FASTENENG.
$PECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 378,606, dated February 28, 1888.
Application filed October 8. 1887. Serial No. 251,795.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES W. MARoY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buggy-Seat-0orner Fastenings, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is a cheap strong fastening for the corners of buggy-seats. The common method of securing these prior to my invention was by letting in upon the top edge of the seat at each corner an angle-plate and securing the same by screws, and sometimes by binding the whole top with iron, and in other cases fitting strengthening-blocks in the corners and nailing the back and sides to them. These methods are expensive, unsightly, and lnsecure.
My fastening is inexpensive, can be quickly applied, makes a much stronger seat, and is not seen after the seat is finished.
The invention will be readily understood from a description of the accompanying drawings, in which-= Figure l is a perspective view of an unfinished buggyseat having its corners secured according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a per- (No model.)
spective view of one of the corners drawn to full size to more clearly illustrate the secured corner.
The sides A and back B are rnitered to gethered at the corners in the usual manner, and secured upon the bottom 0, after which the staples D are driven into the top edge across the miter-joint, and in the act of driving countersunk so as to come flush with or a little below the wood. The staple D is preferably made from flat band-steel, and has its legs slightly diverging, as shown, so that in driving it home the act of driving draws the corner-joints firmly together.
I claim 1. In a buggy-seat, the combination of the bottom 0, the sides A, and back B, secured thereon, and the staple D, for securing the corners, substantially as shown and described.
2. A corner-fastening for buggy-seats consisting of the fiat metal staple D, having diverging legs, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
