HHHIHHHIIIIIHIIHIHHHHHHHIIHIIII INVENTOR. JACK E. LEEVERS wad/ M INTERIOR MARINE DOOR AND FRAME BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a marine door and frame and more particularly to an interior marine door and frame in which the door is hung prior to installation.
According to the invention, an interior marine door and frame is provided in which the door is pre-hung in the frame prior to installation by means of hinges on one side thereof and a lock on the other side. The frame comprising four basic members i.e., vertical jam members, a horizontal header member and a lower sill member, are each supplied with supplementary external stop strips which are installed after the assembly has been inserted into a bulk head opening with a ship. These supplementary external stop strips render the entire assembly captive within bulk head.
An object of the present invention is the provision of a pre-hung internal marine door and frame.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a pre-hung internal marine door and frame which is captivated in a bulk head after assembly.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a pre-hung interior marine door and frame which is inexpensive to manufacture and extremely convenient and simple to install.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the FIGS. thereof and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view partially exploded of the preferred embodiment of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the embodiment of FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a sectional view ofa portion of the embodiment of FIG. 1; and
FIG. 4 is a sectional view of another portion of the embodiment of FIG. 1.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Referring to FIG. 1, the pre-hung interior marine door and frame assembly is shown generally at 11 with a door l2 having panels 12A and 12B therein hunb in frame 16 via hinges l3 and lock 14. Frame 16 consists of vertical jam members 16A and 16B, upper horizontal header member 16C and lower horizontal sill member 16D. Supplementary external stops 16A, 16B,
16C and 16D cooperate with members 16A, 16B, 16C and 16D, respectively, after the assembly has been inserted into an opening in the ships cabin walls, to captivate the assembly within the wall.
FIG. 2 illustrates a view of the end of sill frame member 16D with an end slot 17 suitably dimensioned for receiving the lower end of vertical jam member 16A. Internal groove 18 is present in all of the members of frame 16 and is dimensioned to receive the tongue portion 19 of the door stop strip 21. Door stop strip 21 becomes an integral part of each of the frame members 16 by bonding or other permanent attaching means.
FIG. 3 shows a cross section of vertical jam frame members 16A with integral door stop strip 19 with a typical stile and rail door 12, having an inset panel 12A, in an abutting relationship thereto. Jam member 16A is shown with outer stop 16A installed thereon to captivate the assembly to vertical bulk head 22. Vertical bulk head 22 has decorative exterior panels 23.
Referring to FIG. 4, a cross section is shown through sill member 16D having a door stop strip 19 in an abutting relationship with door 12. External stop strip 16D captivates sill 16D to vertical bulk head riser 24. Vertical bulk head riser 24 extends upwardly from the ships deck 27 and carries decorative outer panels 26.
It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention claimed is:
1. An interior marine door and frame comprising:
a frame member having first and second sections,
said first section being dimensioned for being received by an aperture in a ships bulk head riser and protruding through one side thereof, said second section being of a larger dimension for forming a stop on another side of said bulk head riser;
a plurality of stop members fixedly attached to said protruding frame member in an abutting relationship with said one side of said bulk head riser;
a pre-hung door hingedly attached to said frame member; and
a tongue and groove door stop member coupled to a vertical jam member of said frame member opposite said hinged attachment.

Claims (1)
