OFFICE-TICKLER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,335, dated January 31, 1888.

Application filed October 19, 1886. Serial No. 216,690.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. SMITH, of Toledo, in the county of Tama and State of Iowa, have invented what I call an Office-Tickler, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to improvements in devices for containing memoranda of all business transactions requiring attention on some particular day or date in the future; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will hereinafter be more fully set forth, and particularly pointed outin the claim appended.

In the accompanying drawing, in which similar letters of reference are made to indicate corresponding parts, the figure is a perspective view of an ofiice-tiekler, showing my device as it appears in use.

Referring by letter to said drawing, Ashows one of the partitions forming the days of the month; 13, one of the partitions, forming the months of the year; 0, the box or receptacle for holding the partitions in place.

'D is a fixed vertical partition near the front wall of the box. The interior space between the partition D and the rear wall of the boxis materially less than the width ofthe monthpartitions, and thus the said partitions, together with the adjustable day-partitions, are retained in a semi-vertical position and prevented from falling to the bottom of the box.

A portion of each partition is cut away after the manner of a ledger-index, thus exposing to view the full number of days in each month, and also the full number and name of each month in the year. The partitions described are adjustable, so that as fast as one day or (No model.)

month shall have past or gone the partitions corresponding thereto may be taken out and placed back of the day or month preceding it, thus making a new date for the following month or year, as the case may be.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that a brief history or memoranda of any business transaction requiring attention at some particular time in the future can be placed in the tickler in front of the partition, indicating the proper date when said business should have attention, and by reason of the daily and monthly adjustment of the partitions, as before described, all business is brought to an immediate notice and upon the very date it should have attention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A file for office use, consisting of a rectangular box having a fixed vertical partition near the front wall, the space between the said vertical partition and the rear wall of the box being less in width than the intermovable month-partitions and in combination therewith, the intermovable month and adjustable day partitions unattached to each other and provided with extensions of their upper edges cut away, as shown, and carrying the proper designations of months and days, whereby a. single series of day-partitions can by interposition be used with any month-partition of the series, all as shown a'nd described.
