LOUISE B. HOPPEL, OF LYONS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOB OF ONE HALF TO YVILLIAM KETTERER, OF SAME PLACE.
MEDICAL COMPOUND.

Application filed May 26, 1887. Serial No. 239,405. (No specimens.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIsE B. HOPPEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lyons, in the county of Wayne and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Remedies for Constipation and Piles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Thisinvention has reference to medical compounds which are especially designed for the treatment of constipation and piles.
My improved medicine, which I have found to be beneficial in the treatment of these diseases, consists of figs, raisins, powdered buchu, powdered senna, and molasses, as set forth in the following formula:
One pound offigs, chopped line; three on uces of raisins, chopped fine; two drains of powdered buchu, two drams of senna, and three gills of molasses, are thoroughly mixed together and the compound is slowly warmed.
The directions for use are as follows: One tea-spoonful of the medicine should be taken before retiring for the night,andif this is found to be insufficient to produce the desired action of the bowels a tea-spoonful should be taken before breakfast upon the following morning. This should be repeated morning and evening until the bowels move freely, after which the dose should be gradually diminished and finally discontinued.
\Vhile in the above formula I have stated the proportions of the ingredients used preferably, it is evident that said proportions may be varied without departing from my invention.
YVhat I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A composition of matter or medicine consisting of figs, raisins, seuna, buchu, and molasses, compounded substantially in the pro portions described.
