UNITE STATES PATENT OF ICE.
JOHN P. YOUNGMAN, OF HAZLETON, PENNSYLVANIA.
PORTABLE RANGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 363,786, dated May 24, 1887.
Application filed September 30, 1586. Serial No. 25,008. (No model.)
in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a portable rangehaving my invention applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a detailed sectional view showing a modification.
A represents the oven of the range; B B, the smoke spaces; 0, the door to the oven, and D the pipe leading from the upper smoke-space to the chimney E. The oven A is connected to the heat passage or drum F by an opening, G, in which is fitted a damper, H. Leading from the heat passage or drum F is the pipe J, which conducts the heat from the oven to an upper story in the building. In this instance I have shown the pipe J surrounding the pipe D to save the heat radiated from said pipe; but it may be separate from the pipe D, if desired.
In the door 0 is formed an opening, K, to admit cold airto the oven A, and over this opening is placed a slide, L, for closing said opening. The heat passage or drum F is by preference made of curved pipe, as shown in Fig. 1, 5
one end being placed upon the flange dof the opening G of the oven, the other being placed upon the flange dof the opening h in the pipe J, so that the pipe forms a direct conduit for the heat from theoven to the pipe J. In place 0 of a curved pipe, as shown in Fig. 1, I may use two stove-pipe elbows placed together, as
shown in Fig. 2; but Iprefer the curved pipe,
as shown in Fig. 1.
When the oven is used for baking, the 5 thence through the pipe J to the room above, 50 for warming the same.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A portable range having an opening, G, at 55 the back communicating with the oven, said opening being provided with a damper, H, in combination with the pipe D, pipe J ,su rron nding the pipe D,and the pipe F,connecting the openingG with the pipe J, an opening, K, be 6D ing formed at the front of the oven for the ad-' mission of air, substantially as described.
