Abstract

A box having an open back and a slotted front wall, holds folded tissue napkins or handkerchiefs (termed tissues) therein which are removably through the slot in the front wall. The box is held by a clamp to the foot end of a baby carrier in a position to allow ready access to the tissues by any person carrying the baby carrier. The device allows a person carrying the baby in a carrier to have ready access to tissues as needed by extracting tissues with one hand while supporting the baby in the carrier with the other hand and arm and without the necessity of placing the carrier and baby upon some support while obtaining a tissue.

TISSUE HOLDER AND ATTACHMENT THEREFOR SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The invention comprises a holder or box for holding stacks of folded or interleafed tissue paper napkins or handkerchiefs. The holder or box has sidewalls and a front wall joining the sidewalls; the back being open for insertion of a stack or a box of the tissues. The front wall is provided with two planer portions in offset relationship between sides of the box or holder to provide an outstanding ledge or shoulder and one planer wall is provided with a slot through which individual tissues may be withdrawn from the stack within the box or holder. The box is adapted to have the open back facing a flat wall such as would be used for a baby carrier, there being a clamp carried by the baby carrier and provided with an inturned flange for engagement with the shoulder or ledge of the box or holder for maintaining the holder against an end wall of the baby carrier. Both the box or holder and the clamp may be formed of a plastic of some character. Usually the baby carrier includes a flat base provided with a pair of parallel sidewalls and an end wall, the sides and end walls being provided with an encircling flange which extends outwardly from said walls with the sidewalls varying in height from the head end of the carrier to the foot end. The tissue box or holder is positioned externally of the foot end of the carrier wall and held to said end by the clamp.

It has been found exceedingly difficult to support an infant in a baby carrier and to have access to some box containing tissues when tissues are necessary for the infant. The usual procedure is to lay the baby carrier and the baby down upon some supporting structure and then pick up a tissue box with one hand and remove the tissues with the other, take care of the baby and place the box in some location. The present invention allows ready access to tissues with one hand while supporting the infant in the carrier with the other arm and hand. As a consequence, the carrier need not be placed upon a supporting structure as the tissues may be secured by one hand.

An object of the invention is to provide a unit for tissues which may be secured to a baby carrier for ready access to the tissues or for removal of the tissue holding unit for reloading the unit with tissues.

A further object is the provision of a tissue holding unit adapted to be readily secured to a supporting object such as a baby carrier, carriage, crib or bed, for ready access to the tissues, as needed.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In FIG. 1 is shown a baby carrier 1 of conventional design which is provided with a base 2,

3 and 4. The head end of the baby carrier in the present instance is not provided with an enclosing wall but is open. The sidewalls are of varying height from the head end to the foot end as shown in FIG. 1 at 6 and 7. The end wall 5 is of the same height as the end 7 of the sidewalls. It is intended when supporting an infant in the carrier that the feet of the infant should be adjacent the end wall 5 and that the head is at the open end of the carrier. The sidewalls and the end wall are provided with an encircling outwardly extending flange 8. As shown in FIG. 2, the flange extends outwardly as shown at 9 terminating in a downwardly extending portion 10. As stated, baby carriers differ in form,

certain thereof being of ornamental construction but in the main most baby carriers follow the same configuration, as shown in FIG. 1. A tissue holder is used in conjunction with the baby carrier in the present instance, and comprises a box 20 having an open back at 21 surrounded by top and

end walls

24 and 25 each have an offset portion at 26 and 27. The front wall 28 has an offset portion at 29 which results in a ledge or shoulder at 30. This ledge or shoulder is positioned above a slot 31 in the portion 28 of the front wall. The slot is of extended length and width as shown.

A clamp 40 is of U cross section having two

legs

41 and 42 and a curved top portion 43 joining the legs. Leg 42 is of a greater width than leg 41 and the leg 41 at its bottom edge is provided on its inner surface with a flange 44. The legs are held in convergent relationship by the curved top 43 and the curved top is provided with a slot 45 substantially intermediate the length of the clamp.

The operation, uses and advantages of the invention are as follows.

The box or holder receives a box of the type which houses tissue paper as commercially sold on the market. Usually this box 50 has a portion on one wall which may be broken out to provide a slot through which individual tissues may be removed. It is intended that the slot on box 50 at 51 should be in juxtaposition to the slot 31 of the box or holder 20. The closed box side is positioned against the end wall 5 of the baby carrier and is held thereagainst by the clamp 40 in the manner shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The clamp may slide along the flange of the end wall into position where the flange 44 engages the ledge or shoulder 30 of the tissue box or holder. The clamp leg 42 is received within the baby carrier and engages the end wall 5 as shown in FIG. 2. By this construction, the box is held adjacent the end 10 of the lip or flange 9 which encircles the side and end walls and as the legs are held in convergent relationship by the curved end 43, the clamp maintains the box or holder securely against the exterior surface of the end wall 5 of the carrier.

Most baby carriers are provided with a strap for maintaining the infant within the carrier and usually the strap has one end secured to the end wall flange or lip. When this construction is utilized, the slot 45 in the clamp allows the strap to be passed therethrough and within the baby carrier. It is obvious that the box or holder 20 is readily removed from contact with the end wall of the baby carrier by sliding the clamp in one direction to release the flange 44 from the ledge 30 whereupon the old box which held tissues may be removed and a new box inserted within the tissue box or holder 20.

I claim:

1. A tissue holder and attachment therefor, including: a box having encircling sidewalls and -a front wall joining said sidewalls and providing an open back, said front wall formed with a slot, and the front wall having two portions in offset relationship to provide a ledge, the box receiving the usual tissues for access to tissues in said box through said slot and means for securing said box to an object comprising a clamp having a flange for engagement with the box ledge.

2. The combination with a baby carrier having an end wall at the foot of said carrier, of: a box for tissues and a clamp for maintaining said box in engagement with the exterior of said end wall of the baby carrier; the front wall of the box provided with a ledge and the clamp straddling the end wall of the baby carrier and having a flange for engaging the ledge of the box.

3. In a device of the character disclosed: a box having a front wall and encircling sidewalls, the back of the box being open, the front wall being provided with a slot and the front wall having a lengthwise ledge portion and a clamp having two legs and a curved top holding the legs in convergent relationship, one leg provided with an internal flange, the flange of said clamp engaging the ledge of the box for holding the box against a supporting object, the other leg of said clamp engaging said supporting object.

Claims

1. A tissue holder and attachment therefor, including: a box having encircling sidewalls and a front wall joining sAid sidewalls and providing an open back, said front wall formed with a slot, and the front wall having two portions in offset relationship to provide a ledge, the box receiving the usual tissues for access to tissues in said box through said slot and means for securing said box to an object comprising a clamp having a flange for engagement with the box ledge.
